Destroying the GOP: How Immigration Turned California Blue
American Thinker ^ | 02/25/2014 | John Bennett

Republicans won California in every presidential election of the '50s, '60s, '70s, and '80s, except for the '64 Goldwater loss.  Now California has a third-world economy with one-party dominance.

The pro-amnesty Republicans should think clearly about what happened to the Golden State.

Today, California's GOP has withered to a small fraction of the state's registered voters.  Since the state began tracking party affiliation in 1922, Republicans have never had such a low share.  Republicans are now 29 percent of voters; Democrats are 44 percent.

But California did not go quietly.  In 1994, California voters, and governor Pete Wilson, tried to eliminate the incentives for illegal immigration with Proposition 187.  Prop 187 sought to prevent people from receiving social services or public education until they were verified as U.S. citizens.  Law enforcement agencies were to report illegals to state and federal authorities.

The proposition passed by a stunning 59%-to-41% margin in 1994.  However, by 1999, Prop 187 was invalidated by court rulings pushed by liberal organizations.  California is now known as Mexifornia.

How could the state that passed Prop 187 and had been a stalwart for Republican presidents have fallen so far?

As the graphs below show, demography was electoral destiny for California.  The top chart shows California's demographic changes (from 1960 to 2010), compared to the state's Electoral College votes.  The state's Electoral College votes went blue in tandem with the rising Hispanic population.

California is hopeless. It is controlled by envioroschizoids in the North and the Reconquesta is nearly complete in the South.

Let’s not forget the role played by the educational system in California — more kids require more dues-paying CalPERS contributing teachers — and the worst culprit was the Community College system that actively recruited from the illegal alien crowd to fill its classrooms that would be paid for by the taxpayer.

And the huge population of illegal aliens and green card holders helped CA secure an estimate nine additional Congressional seats. Allocation of congressional districts is based on population and the decennial census, which counts everyone.

How the Gang of Eight bill and immigration generally shift seats in the House of Representatives

The overall impact of immigration is very large. The 22.5 million non-citizens (both legal and illegal) in the country redistributed nine seats in the House in 2010. Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania each lost a seat. Florida and New York each gained a seat, Texas gained two seats, and California gained five seats.

The 40 million immigrants (citizen and non-citizen) in the 2010 census redistributed 18 seats. Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin each lost a House seat and Ohio lost two seats. New Jersey and Washington each gained a seat, Florida and Texas each gained two seats, New York gained three seats, and California gained nine seats.

Of the 18 seats redistributed by the 40 million immigrants in the country in 2010, 16 went to states that voted for President Obama in 2012. Thus, from a partisan perspective, immigration tends to benefit Democrats.

The redistribution caused by immigration tends to take representation away from states comprised mostly of U.S. citizens and give it to states where a large share of residents are not citizens. In the states that lost seats due to all immigrants in 2010, 96 percent of the voting-age population were citizens in contrast to 86 percent in the states that gained seats.

In the states that lost seats due to all immigrants in 2010, the average district had 543,243 voting-age citizens compared to 449,553 in the states that gained a seat. There is a real tension between large-scale immigration and the principle of "one man, one vote".

Teachers do not use CalPERS. They use a system called CalSTRS.

Thanks — I didn’t know that. I see where it also preceded CalPERS

The "Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986" destroyed California.

And that involved only 3-5 million illegals.

Count Texas turning into a blue State in 5to10years...Mark my words! I should know I live in the cesspool of Texas where freebies are alive and well and doing extremely well for the illegals and where Spanish is the main spoken language!! Instead of the illegals learning English, Americans are being forced to learn Spanish to accommodate Hispanics!!

Those were the Earl Warren Republicans. Meanwhile, Texas has gone the opposite way. Demography is a factor but not as much as ideology.

California is a snapshot of what America as a whole will look a few decades from now.

For illegal aliens there exist enablers who are educated and savvy to how politics work.

I witnessed firsthand a Mexican-American enabler confess to me that illegals and their enablers are coached to overestimate their numbers for the census. In other words if a census taker knocks on the door, a person will answer and claim double or triple the number of actual persons in the home and they will be described as Hispanic.

What Americans should understand and accept is that if a person is willing to break American law by entering or staying in the country illegally, then they are willing to lie, cheat and break the law on other matters.

To grant these lawbreakers a free pass with amnesty is to encourage more lawbreaking.

Proposition 187, the ballot issue approved by nearly 60% of California’s population has been successfully annihilated by Governor Gray Davis as of July 27, 1999.

Current GOP leadership only care about their speaking fees, consulting fees, and cheap labor for their backers.

I'm not so sure this phenomenon can be blamed on crimigrants. As a former resident of that sewer of a state, even I was stunned at how easy it is to commit voter fraud. You've got these same scumbag liberals voting five or six times in elections, while conservatives are obeying the letter of the law. That's five or six votes to our one.

Heck. That dump doesn't need wetb@cks. Their addicts and faggots are enough.

I often refer to Reagan’s amnesty as the largest act of gerrymandering in history. He annexed mexico into California.

California is hopeless.

You're hopelessly ignorant.

Way back in '94, CA passed Prop 187 in a big way, while most of the other states stood gawking, thinking it was somehow racists...Others thought this invasion was somehow cute and humorous while it was confined to CA and the southwest.

Then the feds working in concert with their corrupt state government co-conspirators declared CA election illegally and burned the ballots, after 187 passed....

The results of this epic government intrusion can now be seen in every state in the country, including your backyard...

I have to agree that kalifornia is hopeless, as in, a lost cause. There's no way to recover it for any conservative cause. Faggots, tree huggers, commies, crimigrants, et al.

It's like a tube of toothpaste where all the toothpaste has been squeezed out. There's no getting it back in.
