There is, indeed, a limit to what you can do.
But it is absolutely necessary to do something!
1. Gain firm control of the Southern border.
2. Enforce any and all laws regards lawful employment.
3. Enforce any and all laws concerning receipt of government assistance.
4. Enforce any and all laws regarding expired visas.
5. Maintain the enforcement program for at least three years.
6. Pause...and take a look at who's left.
7. Deal with the remainder as best you can.
We do know that significant numbers of illegals will self-deport -- if they are blocked from employment and welfare. Particularly, now that the economic picture in Mexico is improving significantly -- relative to the U.S.
The remainder will, for the most part, be composed of illegals with longevity who have kept their nose clean -- and their children (the so-called "Dreamers"). At that stage, I'd have no problem with giving the illegal adults a resident visa and their illegal children a path to citizenship (children born here would, of course, already be citizens).
A number of other citizenship reforms would also be appropriate -- such as restricting the grant of citizenship to people born on American soil to children born of parents who were here legally.
The thing is that, when you begin the enforcement phase, you cannot announce that, at some point, you'll pause and deal with what's left. That would be like announcing when you're going to abandon Iraq or Afghanistan...
Great ideas. You should forward this to Ted Cruz. Seriously. We need to use wisdom with this issue. I have yet to hear any sensible plan from any candidate.

I heard that the Mexican economy is starting to look better than US because of obama. They are fracking and drilling for oil while Obama is using his power to destroy our blessed country. If this keeps up, we might have to look for jobs in Mexico. Problem is, they enforce there borders.
He doesn't deserve the benefit of a learning curve on something as basic as illegal immigration, especially given the social and economic problems we all know it causes. Not to mention the gross unfairness to all those who spent the money and time and jumped through hoops to get here legally.
The ‘his heart is in the right place; but because he's a freshman in DC he got hoodwinked by the more seasoned in the Senate - happens to the best of them’ doesn't cut it. Nice try, I'll give you that much.
Great speech
to bad he turned RINO on immigration

But, he has stood with Ted Cruz. The immigration thing is the only area he needs to brush up on and I think he will. You have to consider the oppression his family escaped from in Cuba. I’d take him any day over the traitor Rand Paul whose stand on Amnesty and him actively backing Mitch McConnell for reelection has absolutely scorched my drawers. I border-line hate him because he has become just another “Inside the Beltway” Whore in D.C.
Exactly my reaction. THIS is the guy whom I supported against Crist when the NRSC/ GOP-E was pulling for the latter. An ARTICULATE, slightly if justly PISSED OFF, knowledgeable conservative. Too bad he blew so much of his credibility pushing for amnesty. I won't ever fully trust him again. Never. Fooled me once, shame on him, and all that.
Harkin, Sherrod Brown, Berni Sanders, Claire McCaskill and all these pro-worker Democrats voted with Rubio and the Chamber of Commerce on amnesty. Berni Sanders was rewarded with 1.5 Billion youth jobs project.
The biggest swing in the amnesty vote was every Democrat voting for it. You already had the McCains, Grahams and Hatch’s voting for it.
Give it up, Marco.
You’ve been seen for what you are—There’s no going back.
