Florida Democratic congressional candidate Alex Sink said immigration reform was important at a Tuesday debate because, without it, it would be difficult for employers to find people to clean hotel rooms and do landscaping.
“Immigration reform is important in our country,” she said. “We have a lot of employers over on the beaches that rely upon workers and especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping? We don’t need to put those employers in a position of hiring undocumented and illegal workers.”

Back in the 80s I and all my friends were working on farms and restaurants doing all the low paid jobs.

I’ve always felt that we should have a low base level of benefits that can be raised through work.
Unfortunately that might get some folks to thinking that work is an even better option and we can’t have that.

I’ve always wondered...
my first job in high school was working for a roofer illegally, off-the-books
it was a common way to make a few bucks in poverty-ridden rural NC, besides running drugs between Wilmington and points north (which I never did)
anyway, my adult co-workers were drunks, speed freaks and borderline ‘tards—who’ve since been replaced with illegals.
question: what are those sorts of barely-functioning people doing now?
60+ and never could afford either! My family was able bodied enough to do it ourselves! That a great line though~ We’ll give you the title of Citizen so you can be the same down trodden people we need to clean up our messes!

Unbelievable -- I get fliers daily from landscapers and maid services and watch them in the neighborhood and none of them are from across the border. They are all American citizens doing those jobs.

Hire Americans.
Pay them the wages for which they will work.

Back in the 80’s I’d go to a resort area, all of the hotels had high school or early college age kids working as maids, butlers, cleanup, whatever. Earn cash, hang out and party in a fancy resort all summer.
Newspaper delivery in my area used to be kids, now it looks like adults who don’t speak English.
Lots of us picked fruit, depending on the season, now it’s all “migrants”.
