Six Mexican criminals sought in Southmost murder

Six men believed to be members of a Mexican criminal organization have all been identified as suspects in a murder that took place in the Southmost area of Brownsville.

Juan Manuel Ocanas-Barrientos was shot and killed while driving on the 3400 block of Clavel Street back on January 11th.

Authorities arrested 30-year-old Felipe Alvaro Cabrera for his role in the crime one month later.

But an investigation revealed that he did not act alone.

Brownsville police reported six more suspects have been identified as:

• Javier Garza Medrano, 37 • Jose Luis Ibarra Morales, 30 • Edgar Javier Tafoya Robles, 24 • Abraham Alegria Ruiz, 27 • Diego Armando Segovia Rivera, 25 • Christian Omar Camero, 29

Brownsville police detectives worked with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents and learned the six are all part of transnational criminal organization.

Investigators did not name the organization but revealed that the victim was at a place that is known for drug activity and was mistaken for someone else.

All six men are Mexican nationals and believed to be in Mexico.

Resourceful Mexican drug cartels are recruiting convicts in US prisons to work for them as as drug runners, assassins and enforcers when they are released.

One US prisoner who is nearing the end of a 10-year sentence said he was approached by Mexican drug gangs who wanted to give him 20kilograms of cocaine to sell when he got out - worth nearly half a million dollars on the street.

The US prisoner said the Mexican drug gangs are beginning to see American prisons as a 'job fair' that can supply an endless stream of talent in the United States as prisoners are released back into society.

A federal incitement recently revealed that the federal prison at Forrest City, Arkansas, was being used as a recruitment center for the Gulf Cartel 'The conditions are perfect right now for the cartels,' the prison inmate told the Daily Beast. 'They have a pool of captivated untapped talent and ready-made resources which they can access in our prisons. I'm telling you, it’s like a job fair in here.'

Last month, the FBI indicted 16 members of the Gulf Cartel for bringing more than 100kilograms of cocaine into northern Arkansas, alleging the Mexican crime syndicate recruited numerous drug runners from the Federal Correctional Complex at Forrest City. Secondly and regrettably any credible LEO will say with true conviction that they are only able to work on the tip of iceberg in their efforts to chip away to the underneath.
