NFL could pull Super Bowl if Arizona religious rights bill passes
The Examiner ^ | February 25, 2014 | Ashe Schow

Call it what you want -- anti-gay or religious rights -- but if Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signs a controversial bill, you might not be calling Arizona the home of the 2015 Super Bowl.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, S.B. 1062, is the current controversy du jour out of Arizona, and the National Football League is with the opposition.

“Our policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or any other improper standard,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told USA Today. “We are following the issue in Arizona and will continue to do so should the bill be signed into law, but will decline further comment at this time.”

If AZ passes this and the NFL contests, and even if it doesn’t, I am vacationing in AZ next Super Bowl season, and bringing my family. Any ideas for a one-week blowout vacation? I have only ever been to Wilcox. (small plane refuel.)

No one will ever take on the corporate/government complex. They are becoming one and the same.

I’d compare it to Dallas just with corrupt politicians instead of corrupt oil barons.
It’s good but doesn’t compare to the saga of Heisenburg.
I would also warn you that it has a rather hard edge as far sexual explicitness.
Spacey does do a good job.
Good luck!

They threatened this same B.S. a while back over Arizona's refusal to recognize MLK Day as a state holiday.

It is said that failure to recognize MLK Day as a state holiday was the sole and only reason Phoenix was not awarded the Winter Olympics.

The NFL fan base is the largest in pro US sports by far. They have gamblers, the fantasy guys, the fans who like the glitziness and popularity and the shrinking number of fans who actually like the game itself, but maybe not the direction it has taken in the last decade or so. It kind of makes sense when you think about it. Nothing is going to happen to the NFL, it’s bulletproof in large part by the nature of the fan base. It drives sports media by far in the US, which looking at the product isn’t that surprising when you look around at the state of things.

Rush was right today about the left wing attempt to takeover the NFL. I’m getting pretty fed up with the NFL. It doesn’t help that my Raiders have sucked for the last decade.

The NFL does not have an antitrust exemption. Only Major League Baseball has one.

The rest of your comment is wonderful.

It is about money! The NFL would likely sid with terrorists if that is where the money was.

F*** the NFL.

I will not support the wretched excess of this big -business-masquerading-as-sport any longer.

And Roger Goodell can just kiss my rosy red All-American a$$

Yep, something about “selling the rope used to hang them with” uttered by someone about 50 years ago.

I don’t know a lot about this governor, but my initial impression was that she is better than average. What will she do? History is littered with people who sold their souls for a trinket and an hour of notoriety.

Pushing political issues, and most especially political issues that are counter to red-blooded traditional American values, is an extremely stupid marketing strategy for an entertainment industry dependent on the support of red-blooded traditional Americans.
Commish Goodell, son of a Democrat political hack, has a lot of 'splaining to do.

They did this years ago when Arizona refused to recognize Martin Luther King. They eventually cowered and passed the Holiday. I guess they will be cowering again. Losing the Superbowl means losing a ton of money for the state. I wonder what the Governor is going to do. She is the only one we have not heard from in awhile.

F*ck the NLF. Can’t afford to go to a football game today. Costs $25 just to park and get a bus ride to the Redskin Stadium. Food prices are outrageous. Seats would cost me about 300-400$ for 4 people.

My family can eat for a month on that, or pay electric and heating gas bills for a month.

That is why God invented TV (not Al Gore).

It is time that the NFL stuck to football and left the Politically Correct crap to the commies.

Blackmail by the Gaystapo and the NFL??

They’ve come out with this “N-word” penalty which it seems most blacks don’t like and they are saying the white executives are forcing on the players and now, this ratty situation.

Stand Strong Arizona.

Notwithstanding this article, I stopped caring about the Bob Costas influenced NFL long ago. I must say, instead of sitting in front of the TV all Sunday afternoons like a dreaming idiot, I have a more productive day spending time with my family, and getting things done. GET A LIFE, and ditch the NFL.

Our policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness

Then be inclusive and tolerant towards all dissent not just the dissent you like and play your stupid game in Arizona!
