President Obama’s Internal Revenue Service today quietly released a series of Obamacare “Health Care Tax Tips” warning Americans that they must obtain “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by the federal government – or face a “shared responsibility payment” when filing their tax returns in 2015. The term “shared responsibility payment” refers to the Obamacare individual mandate tax, one of at least seven tax hikes in the healthcare law that directly hit families making less than $250,000 per year.

Sure, but some folks surely will lie, not realizing what that can get them from the IRS.

The rule of law is dead and I know it. No argument. However, if we don’t continue to discuss the law, however academic that conversation is now, there’s not much left to talk about. :-)

FWIW I don’t blame you for calling out my first post. My homepage makes the same point after all. Sooner or later everyone is going to have to deal with the fact that the rule of law is currently null and void and any talk about that will be dangerous or very limited in scope.

Agree. People need to learn to plan their exemptions close to enough to either not get a refund or to get a very small one.
Are they in a state that expanded Medicaid?
If they are in a state that did expand it, he can apply through the Marketplace and get insurance at probably very little monthly cost (if his income is low with that part-time job). The deductibles may still be high, but depends on the plan he chooses.
If they are in a state that did not expand Medicaid, he won’t get the low monthly cost (no tax credits/subsidy).
I’m sorry for their situation...hope things improve for all of them.
Supposedly insurance companies cannot turn you down for preexisting conditions because of the ACA provisos, that has been in effect for a while now I believe. True, you have to apply during open enrollment and may have to pay more because of it, but one can find insurance (it’s the whether or not you can pay for it part that gets in the way). A person who has the right income base and preexisting conditions can get subsidized or free health insurance (medicare/medicaid). The choices may not be to your liking, but they are there.

I have a two year old FairTax “Ping list” which, when the occasion warrants, I use in an attempt to keep the momentum for FairTax moving forward, one mind at a time. The FairTax “ping list” I use contains names of some people who are no longer FReeping. But hope springs eternal in the human breast, so I continue to “ping” away, whenever I see an article that has relevance to the FairTax.
I’ve been in the “replace the income tax with a National Retail Sales Tax (NRST) and abolish the IRS” movement since April 17, 1991 (courtesy of a Pat Buchanan op-ed piece of that date), and was an “Inside the Evil Beltway (ITEB)” lobbyist for the NRST FRom 1995 until 2004.
My advocating and lobbying activities ITEB were a labor of love for me. I HATE THE INCOME TAX AND THE IRS! I was mostly unpaid for my activities ITEB. A small trust fund and some part-time work kept me going until my mother got too old to live by herself and I had to leave WDC and move to Jacksonville, FL.
Since I can no longer advocate for the FairTax ITEB, I do so FRom my keyboard and in my daily interaction with my fellow Americans.
As the Ophonybama depredations on our American Way of Life continue apace, and particularly in respect of the IRS, I expect that it will become increasingly easier to sell the Fairtax concept to both politicians and the American public.
FairTax advocates, both inside and outside the Evil Beltway have made steady progress in their education campaign, but much, much more needs to be done.
I NEVER IMAGINED THAT FReedom WOULD BE SUCH A HARD SELL!

I don’t believe that the “Super Majority” vote you call for is a show stopper. With FairTax in place, EVERY attempt by Congress to raise the rate would be met with some strong opposition by the American public. The fact is that all of the tinkering with the income tax has been done stealthily in the dead of night. Congress rarely publicizes the changes they make in the Internal Revenue Code to avoid the unwelcome and hostility such changes incur amongst the public.
FairTax is a 23% sales tax, not 31%. ALL essential purchases are rendered tax FRee by the rebate mechanism, so the tax is progressive, depending on one’s personal consumption above the essentials. We should studiously avoid engaging in class warfare rhetoric in these discussions, because once we go there, the LIEberals win. You will recall that the 2nd plank of the Communist Manifesto called for a “steeply progressive income tax” as a way to destroy the middle class. FairTax by not taxing work, savings and investments, will help rebuild our shrinking middle class, a phenomenon caused, in part, by the current tax code.
FairTax now has more public and Congressional support than it ever has. Momentum is growing, albeit slowly. We do have our work cut out for us!
I do not care about IRS job loss. Many will retire, others will find other work in government, and many will go find honest jobs. How often is “job loss” mentioned when the military services have a “Reduction in Force?”
Government is our slave, not our Master!
We must get used to demanding that government do our bidding!
No question about it — there are a lot of hurdles to overcome. HST, if we don’t try, we’ll never get there!
Let’s not burn the IRS down — we don’t need to go to prison!
HST, we can certainly burn the IRS down metaphorically. We need all the help we can get to do that, and there is no fear of going to prison!
