BONNE TERRE, Missouri -- A Missouri inmate was executed early Wednesday for abducting, raping and killing a Kansas City teenager as she waited for her school bus in 1989, marking the state's fourth execution by lethal injection in as many months.

Michael Taylor, 47, was pronounced dead shortly at 12:10 a.m. at the state prison in Bonne Terre. Federal courts and the governor had refused last-minute appeals from his attorneys, who argued that the execution drug purchased from a compounding pharmacy could have caused Taylor inhumane pain and suffering.

Taylor offered no final statement. He mouthed silent words to his parents, two clergymen and two other relatives who witnessed his death. As the process began, he took two deep breaths before closing his eyes for the last time. There were no obvious signs of distress.

His victim, 15-year-old Ann Harrison, was in her driveway - carrying her school books, flute and purse - when she was abducted by Taylor and Roderick Nunley. The men pulled her into their car, took her to a home, then raped and fatally stabbed the teenager as she pleaded for her life.

Ann Harrison would be 40 years old today, probably going to her children’s baseball games and piano recitals. Maybe getting one of them ready for the High School Prom.

Michael Taylor was not, ever, going to amount to anything.

These embroidered and convoluted appeals are what I loathe about what American criminal justice has turned into. This godless judiciary seems to think that allowing murderers and rapists to gain parole and maim, torture and kill again is preferable to the occasional and regrettable erroneous execution. "Better that ten go free rather than kill one innocent", etc. Now that we have the DNA standard of proof in some cases, we should be able to eliminate some of these lengthy appeals. If someone is innocent and is mistakenly executed after exhausting reasonable appeals, he or she can be considered to have died in service to his country.

...could have caused Taylor inhumane pain and suffering.

Having worked in a big city ER for 20+ years I've seen more people die than I care to recall. The deaths were due to heart attacks, strokes, cancer, car accidents, drug ODs,suicides....and murder. In regard to the murder victims, these pig lawyers screaming "inhumane" don't have the first clue what "inhumane" looks like....sounds like...smells like.

I,and others,OTOH,*do* know. And being put quietly to sleep ain't it!

“He mouthed silent words to his parents”

I could administer the lethal dose to this cretin myself, but I can’t understand the parents being witnesses to his execution.

Agreed. Should have been executed decades ago.

A guy tried to assassinate FDR but missed and instead killed a mayor. I think they executed him in a couple of weeks.

Every lawyer and judge involved in this delay of justice should be prosecuted for violation of the 6th amendment.

While I tend to agree with you, I wonder would it make a difference if that innocent put to death was You, or your wife/daughter/son/brother?

I’m all for a quick put down when the scum are clearly guilty...

Article didn’t provide much info on Roderick Nunley and his sentence. Hopefully 2014 will be the year of justice to prevail in his case as well.

Freedom isn’t free. People have to raise their children so that incarceration is only a remote likelihood. Stay away from drugs, questionable companions and activities. Does the mother whose child dies in battle feel it any less? Wars are started by the old and ended by those in their prime of life.

But he sucked oxygen for ten more years after the foul deed than the poor little girl lived on earth.

His years alive after killing her were as many as all her years on earth.

Just read the story. Jack Gilbert Graham. And he said he didn’t feel sorry for the people he murdered. Too bad he only got the gas chamber instead of being blown up with dynamite like he use to blow up the plane. But he was executed fairly quickly.
