Those who lollygag in the left lane of highways and interstates could be ticketed under legislation approved in the state House on Wednesday. House Bill 459, by Rep. Bill Hitchens, R-Rincon, was approved 162-9.

The bill makes it a misdemeanor for any driver on a divided highway who does not move to the right when a car going faster approaches from behind.

“If so you will be guilty of enabling someone to exceed the speed limit even more.”

Really? You would be guilty of stepping on their accelerator pedal? Sounds very liberal to me.

if you aren’t in the slowest lane and you have someone behind you, GET OVER.

I should be legal to shoot left lane lingerers

I’d prefer a Rodney King style beatdown for ‘em myself.
Let the cops get out their aggression on someone who deserves it.

yes, you make up the money you pay for the toll in time you save. time is money. and as you say you save on wear and tear on the car caused by the stop and go traffic on the public socialist roads.

socialism always equals long lines as in lines of traffic or lines in free supermarkets, or gov healthcare waiting lists.

YES!! and you did not know that?? It's pretty clear why our highways are so much less efficient than some of the European highways I've been on.

Cowboy Bob is the type that takes 10 miles to pass an 18-wheeler doing the same speed on 2 lane highway, backing up traffic for miles.

How about tickets for those who pass on the right going over the speed limit?

Better yet, how about tickets for those who are passed on the right while going under the speed limit?

Signs all over the place saying “Slower traffic keep right”, but the cops refuse to enforce it.

Passing on the right is as legal as passing on the left, Gramps. The issue isn’t speed limit, or whether you consider yourself a highway junior Brownshirt justified in blocking those who use their own judgement instead of obeying absurd regulations.

Everyone complains about too many laws, except when one is passed that affects his hobby horse, and that’s how we end up having too many laws, every one of them being somebody’s hobby horse!

You are.

If people want to go faster, get the ^&*( out of the way. Period.

It should be legal to shoot left lane lurkers and vehicle vigilantes (self appointed traffic monitors).

What if you are in the left lane, driving the speed limit, and some jerk comes along doing 10-15 MPH over the speed limit. Do you still have to pull over?

Sounds to me we have a likely suspect for squatting in the fast lane!

The bill makes it a misdemeanor for any driver on a divided highway who does not move to the right when a car going faster approaches from behind

Sounds like a dumb law to me unless they provide:

1. That the right lane is clear for the driver to pull over to.

2. That there are no turns permitted from the left lane.

and

3. That the driver behind is not breaking the speed limit, another law. (Requiring a customer in line at a bank to allow a bankrobber to go to the head of the line.)
