Fort Carson leaders have launched investigation into a "selfie" photo of a Fort Carson soldier who said she was hiding in her car to avoid saluting the flag that went viral Tuesday, drawing a storm of criticism.
Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, of the posts's 43rd Sustainment Group posted the image to her Instagram account with a caption that read, "This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag, KEEP ALL YOUR 'THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.' COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, (acronym for I don't give an obscenity)."
Fort Carson officials say soldiers caught not saluting at the 5 p.m. "retreat" ceremony for the lowering of the American ensign are subject to an "on the spot correction" - essentially a loud, one-sided discussion with a sergeant.
It's one of two events per day that require soldiers to stop what they're doing - even pull over and get out of their cars - to salute the flag in an act of tradition and military courtesy.

Nowadays, it seems within our military common sense is an uncommon trait. This clown and the Wisconsin National Guard funeral detail are the best reasons to downsize the Army.

Sounds like somebody who thought the Army would be an easy job where she doesn’t have to do much. Put in some time, and then get triple-preference for civilian government employment (veteran/black/female).
Courts martial not necessary. The proper entry on her fitness report will make her a PFC for the rest of her career.
You're right that people have been ducking retreat forever, so who knows? — but just look at the utterly disproportionate comments here, if the intent was to provoke reaction it looks like it's succeeding.

Nothing in the picture provides context so why did she? Some people are too stupid to be in the military.
It is an HONOR and a PRIVILEGE to be permitted to salute that flag! Why the bleeping HELL did this shallow person even join the military, with the attitude she has??
To salute the flag in an HONOR. Every righteous battle that flag has ever lead Americans into and every draped casket that flag has embraced is represented by those stars and stripes.
God help this women to understand what it is she is pissing on.
