It’s the first step. The second step is the breakoff of diplomatic relations. The third step is a declaration of war or an outright attack.

... the most damaging thing is that his foreign policy has not represented the historical American spirit. We have supported our enemies and screwed our friends. And since we're overextended, broke, friendless and downsized - exactly how do we stand up to Putin? Obama's got the begger's answer - we go to the UN - hat in hand.

Does anyone here truly believe that Mr. Obama will authorize a nuclear counter-strike if were attacked? While I think that a strategic strike against the US from the Russians over this is highly unlikely- Obama's first gut impulse would be the 'we deserved it' one. What would end up happening in an extreme situation with this man at the helm? I don't know. Maybe with a bunch of US cities in smoldering devastation, a 10KT airburst over the northern end of Novaya Zemlya 'as a warning?
After all, guy's got more in common ideologically with a bunch of old Commies than he does with us and the Soviet mentality isn't that far in the past.

You have that so right. The legacy of Carter and Clinton foreign policy left us with enemies and messes that had to cleaned up when grown ups returned to the WH. The same is going to happen with this current inept administration.

Ambassadors get recalled quite regularly as some sort of protest.
A bunch of South Americans recalled their European ambassadors last summer as part of the Snowden drama.
I sure don’t recall a war breaking out then.

"Isnt the recall of an ambassador usually a prelude to a declaration of war?"
Yes it is. But I don't think it will happen - there is no need to do so and if it is done - it is simply a show of power.
But Russia is not interested in war with the US - not now.

The same is going to happen with this current inept administration. I hope that there is another grown up administration. Between the Dems buying votes out of the public exchequer, the IRS as a political weapon, fraud and Karl Rove, I have my doubts.

Obama is such a puny, metro sexual, gutless, un-American, feckless, leader. It breaks the heart.

Kabuki dance. The Russian parliament is playing the Bad Cop, which makes Putin look like the Good Cop. Watch it happen.

It took 20 posts before the question was asked. Maybe the headline writer misused ‘recalled’ foe ‘summoned’?
