DENVER Republican Rep. Cory Gardner formally kicked off his Senate campaign on Saturday by tying his challenge to Democratic Sen. Mark Udall to the GOPs efforts to reverse its decade-long slide in this key political bellwether state.
In 2008, Colorado led the nation in change, Gardner said, alluding to the election of Udall and the nomination of Barack Obama for president during the Democratic National Convention in Denver. In 2014, we can change it again.
Gardner, 39, represents his partys best shot at breaking a 10-year drought in topline races here. Republicans have not won a single presidential, U.S. Senate or gubernatorial election in Colorado since 2004 because of their trouble appealing to women, young people and Hispanics factors that have hobbled the GOP nationwide.
In an indication of the Republican enthusiasm around Gardner, he spoke to a crowd of more than 100 supporters who had braved white-out conditions and subzero temperatures. He was joined on the stage by Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck and state Rep. Amy Stephens, both of whom had been competing for the GOP nomination to challenge Udall until Gardner entered the race last week, leading them to drop out and endorse him. State Sen. Owen J. Hill remains in the race.

“Republicans have not won a single presidential, U.S. Senate or gubernatorial election in Colorado since 2004 because of their trouble appealing to women, young people and Hispanics...”
WRONG!!!
It’s because we kept running crappy candidates!!!
They were incapable of bringing out the Conservative base!
Cory Gardner is a great candidate and will be a great Senator!
Amen to that.
We must crush Udall
He can fill 10 stadiums with ardent supporters... but he will come up 10 welfare votes short
Timing and how this was handled is not good for the locals for several different reasons. Plays well inside the DC beltway.
Another back room deal. Smells of Karl Rove, K street, Colorado Republican Party Chairman Ryan Call , Reince Priebus ...
Many locals are not happy with this and with Beauprez announcing next week.
Sorry to hear that, thought he was a pretty solid conservative.
I’m no Ryan Call fan, and Gardner ain’t my first choice. Still, I despise Udall
He is ok... and has access to tons of money.
Part of the problem for insiders is how this was handled.
There is a similar Governor mess soon.
The public will not likely notice.

Thanks, I just read the two threads of a few days ago, one of which you pinged the list.
Seemed like he was generally liked by those who posted. Hope he’s not connected in any way to that shyster Rove.
We agree.
The Precinct Caucuses and Republican Assemblies the next weeks will be interesting.
Gardner worked for former U.S. Senator Wayne Allard.
Which is a good thing . IMO.
He is well liked by the general public.
Rove is here a lot.
Which is a good thing . IMO.
Allard is a great guy. Helped me personally
Rove is here a lot.
I think he is from here.
Crush them ALL!

Karl Rove was born in Denver ?
“Sorry to hear that, thought he was a pretty solid conservative.”
Cory is indeed a solid conservative.
“Many locals are not happy with this”
Well, this “local” is deliriously happy! Ken Buck is an idiot: he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Bennett. Exact same thing would happen if Buck ran for Senate again. There’s almost no credible GOP candidates in this state because the party is weak beyond belief. This weakness allowed nut-job candidates to get nominated across the board and all were crushed by the Democrats.
“Hope hes not connected in any way to that shyster Rove.”
He’s not. Cory’s a good conservative, though not the shell-backed conservative like many of us, but then again a shell-backed conservative has no chance of being elected here.
So we now have a choice in Colorado: an out and out obama-loving 99% obama-voting communist, or a decent conservative.
