Amy Poehler and Michelle Obama Are Besties, Parks and Recreation Comes to Miami

Looks like Miami's new sister city is none other than Pawnee, Ind.

Yesterday, the 305 was home to Parks and Recreation IRL, as Amy Poehler and Michelle Obama took the stage at the NFL/YET Center at Gwen Cherry Park to announce some new additions to the first-lady's "Let's Move" kids' health initiative.

Miamians with their affinity for all things pork could certainly stand to take a cue from both Obama's efforts and from the enthusiasm of Leslie Knope, who's bound and determined to get Pawneeans to ditch 64-ounce sodas and paunch burgers.

Together, the duo waxed rhapsodic about healthy living and drew lots of laughs -- which is way more than most politicians can say. The celeb-studded appearance served to announce the addition of two new organizations to the lineup of #LetsMove supporters: the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The FLOTUS launched her official "Let's Move" efforts in 2010 to help get kids in this country off their collective butts in a battle against the obesity epidemic.

At yesterday's festivities, Poehler and Obama took the stage together. Poehler stepped onto a wooden box (she's a wee one) and launched into a fabulous intro.

"It's a real honor to be here this afternoon, and it's especially exciting for me to learn that if you play a character with a certain career long enough, people will treat you as if you actually have that job," Poehler joked. "This might be a shocker, but I am actually not a deputy director of parks and recreation, but raise your hand if you are one, here?"

In true Knope-speak, Poehler quipped, "Just ask yourself this question: Without parks, where would we put all the swings? They would be in the middle of the road. That would be very dangerous."

It was clear beyond the jokes that Poehler was pleased to be of service.

"This is so fun. Mrs. Obama is standing next to me like she's my audience and I'm just telling her jokes," she giggled. "It's like a dream! Except for this box. This is a little embarrassing. I'm a grown woman standing on a box."

When she finished, she picked up her soapbox and stepped to the side of the stage, but not before proclaiming that she and Mrs. Obama are best friends.

The FLOTUS took her place at the podium and also confirmed BFF status.

Mrs. Obama described the vast improvements she's seen in health-consciousness over the last four years, including a drop in childhood obesity (which might be the only issue every political party would agree is bad).

She lauded Miami's Fit2Play after-school programs, which the county launched in 2005 to promote physical fitness and healthy eating.

The two new "Let's Move" partners will help five million kiddos get into healthier after-school routines, with more fruits, veggies and exercise, the FLOTUS said.

No word on what healthy eats the team indulged in while visiting. Pastelitos? Cafe con leche? Lechon asado? Perhaps not.

Also in attendance at the event were Mario Lopez, Jenna Bush Hager, Alonzo Mourning and our heavily tanned mayor.

Probably one of Trayvon’s classmates. When my mother and her siblings attended Miami-Edison it was probably the equivalent of a state college degree now, at least.

I find it odd that they are all about pushing eating right and from the looks of the picture the homely blond could stand to lose some weight.
