there is some hypocrisy in that statement

the Euros were used “soft” bribes

and Putin was more direct and offered a direct bribe to not take the “outside influence” presented by the Euros

there is some unhealthy dishonesty in pretending that Ukraine has not been a proxy venue of “outside influnce” from east AND west, in a tug of war between them

from both east and west there has been too much an “all or nothing” attitude
