While it's usually good to set partisan politics aside when working with money, the risk in always saying "yeah and Republicans were just as bad" is that it's not true.  Back in '07 when Senator Obama voted against extending what he called an 'unpatriotic' debt limit increase, our fiscal policy was actually in pretty good shape.  Sure we had all the pundits and 'moderate' McCain style republicans ripping into Bush, but they were wrong.
