Author's note: President Obama had a 90-minute phone call with President Putin Saturday after troops entered Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. No official transcript was released. Here's my take on what might have been said, and what I hope Obama told Russia's president.
Obama: We condemn with the strongest possible words your invasion of the sovereign and independent state of Ukraine. If you do not withdraw immediately, there will be consequences. Nations don’t invade other nations in 21st century. The Cold War is over. You must understand your actions are not in Russia’s best interests.
Putin: Words are cheap, Mr. President. You and I both know you won’t do a thing to stop me in Ukraine. Neither will anyone else. I’ve replaced you as the dominant foreign power in the Middle East. I’ve got a close and growing closer relationship with Iran, which will become the dominant local power in the Middle East. You didn’t even notice it, but I left the Olympics for a day to fly back to Moscow during Olympics to sign an arms agreement with Egypt’s General Sisi. I’m recreating Greater Russia, and reclaiming lands we lost when the Soviet Union collapsed. And, as for my place in history? Winners write history, Mr. President, not whiners.
Obama: Okay, Vladimir, you’ve had your chance. I realize now that not standing up to you in years past has only whetted your appetite for more aggression.
So, I am reversing course. No more reset with Russia. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Now, let me tell you what I’m going to do from here on. I’m going to hit you where it hurts – crush your economy and make your borders vulnerable.

Nice piece of work. Clearly stated and actionable. Too bad the leadership doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about.
In previous decades we didn't have the burden of an unsustainable debt load hanging over us. The real debt is in excess of $100 TRILLION. We are flat broke, thanks largely to Obama's reckless and destructive spending. And a debt problem gives rise to constraints and weakness. We are not in the same place we were in the 80's and 90's. In some respects, the tables have turned. And we have an increasingly aggressive China to worry about.

Obama is not what I would call a tough guy - or Ronald Reagan. He’s running around giving orders?
To the Russians? They’re laughing their arses off and Crimea is already an accomplished fact.
They say Putin is living a dream world but he is enormously popular in Russia for winning back what Russians see as rightfully theirs.
And now what is he going to do about it?
Great ideas. Why won’t they work.
1. Obama has no desire to approve keystone or anything else that would help the US Energy situation. He is scared of the “greenies” with all the money.
2. Obama is scared “spitless” of Putin. He would rather play tough with Israel(via Kerry). He will even back down from Israel if it gets to that point.
3. He has gutted the Military. Why would he expand or reopen bases when there will be no one to MAN them except gays and females.
4. Obama has already given all our weapons away to countries in the middle east. In fact he is now giving military weapons to US Law Enforcement. I doubt anyone will be commuting in these vehicles.

I am sure John Kerry is there... tirelessly fighting for a resolution.
But instead he is there, in the middle of fighting, trying to get people to switch to ‘green’ sqwiggly light bulbs since global warming is their most serious threat.
