If he isn’t nominated for an Emmy, for his role in True Detective, the only explaination would be blowback from his Oscar speech.

He will win.

His character, Russ, Rust, Rustin, Cole, Cohle whatever is the most antithetical to Religion that I have seen.

Absolutely fascinating concepts, that are explored by (his character/writer). While I have no illusions about the series effort to portray Christians as evil, his character at least seems honest.

I don’t agree, but there are many that do.

This is where our battle is being fought.

I think that the series is protraying certain self-proclaimed "Christian" charlatans as evil (e.g. Tuttle); however, others (e.g. the revival preacher) are protrayed well. The preacher is clearly a well-meaning victim of the Tuttles.

As for Rust's philosophy -- he's a seriously disturbed individual. The discussion of philosophy makes that clear to us. It's all part of what makes the character interesting. It's obvious that we're not supposed to emulate Rust -- who'd want to wind up like him?
