There was a large Italian population in Germantown until the postwar years. The composer Vincent Persichetti came from that area. My late mother dated Vince’s cousin.

We lived in Germantown until 1955, when things began to change.

I went to college just off of 6900 Germantown Ave. in the mid-70s, which was right on the Mt. Airy side of Germantown; it wasn't a bad neighborhood at that time, but I haven't lived in the Philadelphia area since '79, so I'm sure it's gone through a few changes since then--even the college is gone.
