The US Secretary of State spoke today of the unacceptability of invading a sovereign country on phony pretexts in order to assert ones own interests in the 21st century. But no, he was not speaking about the United States, as one might have thought.
You just dont invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests, Kerry said during an interview with NBC. This is an act of aggression that is completely trumped up in terms of its pretext. Its really 19th century behaviour in the 21st century.
Kerry has also threatened to isolate Russia economically and politically and warned of potential asset freezes and visa bans, adding to media and political hype that followed Russia authorization of sending a stabilization force in Crimea on official request from the authorities.
There could be certainly disruption of any of the normal trade routine, there could be business drawback on investment in the country, he said. There could even be ultimately asset freezes, visa bans.
Although Kerry was never challenged by the interviewer to comment in terms of that statement on Washingtons own constant threats to use force and military invasions in Iraq and Afghanistan, those who watched the interview immediately smelled the hypocrisy.
Since when does the United States government genuinely subscribe and defend the concept of sovereignty and territorial integrity? They certainly are not doing that at the moment in Syria, Marcus Papadopoulos, commentator for Politics First told RT. They certainly did not do that when they attacked Libya. They certainly didnt do that when they invaded Iraq. They certainly didnt do that when they attacked Serbia over Kosovo and then later on recognized Kosovos unilateral declaration of independence. The United States government merely pays lip service to sovereignty and territorial integrity, it picks and choses.

John Kerry ‘you don’t invade a country on completely phony pretexts’
why not ??? The illegal aliens do just that every day of the year...
How many divisions does John Effin have? (Stalin reference)
China and Russia are acting as great nations act. They are gobbling up territory while the gobbling is good. Let us hope that Russia takes three years to digest the Ukraine because the next big defeat will occur over some rocky outcroppings in the Pacific.
North Korea and Iran are watching this theater with great interest. They will be very active in the next three years and Obama has no answers other than strongly worded statements.
America will survive the incompetence of these clowns. Many people on the borders of Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran will not.
This is not the venue for irony when it comes to meddling in the sovereign affairs of other nations. If some of these clowns here get wind of what you are saying, they will be thumping their chests screeching “isolationist” or worse “follower of that lunatic Ron Paul.”
Nowadays, being a conservative means that you support invading any country on whatever pretext and staying there “till the job is done” no matter if there are metrics to determine that it is done. In short, we invade countries and continue to kill them until they like us, I suppose..... so long as it is a Republican administration who starts the war.
I got the irony in the statement. It will zoom right past most of the folks here.
Flipping through channels last night and even Rachel Maddow was making fun of Kerry. Of course, she managed to bring up Bush and Iraq.
What makes you so confident that America will survive their incompetence? Wish I was as confident. I see what Obama has done in five years. Can only imagine the destruction he can pull off given another three.
No, we would never do that! LIBYA & Hillary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fgcd1ghag5Y
I am glad that you are so astute as to what being Conservative means, AK. Just make sure you continue to avoid making spurious claims about something with which you obviously have an axe to grind...
Oh, and you might try being a bit more observant of the preponderance of evidence to the contrary as well.
Just my $.02.
When the time comes, Barry will attack this country’s Patriots on a completely phony pretext.
attaboy JK’nK! that ought to have ‘em shaking in their jackboots....(with laughter)
Ah, I remember Ash Wednesday in Crimea, back in 2014, when Chairman Gorbachev sent us across the Black Sea, into a peaceful sovereign country...
Horse Face is also a horse’s a$$.
Well, to be frank, it was my observation of the evidence that prompted me to say what I did in the first place.
Incredible that this is coming from our or anybody’s Sec of State. It’s just amazing how ignorant and childish this administration is. Like it’s a bunch of little ignorant kids running around our White House and getting into things. Pathetic.
And this comes from a well known traitor who should’ve been sent to prison for his treasonous behavior along with Hanoi Jane.
You could just as well apply his stupid statement to apply to how Obozo illegally entered our White House and is still there.
These past 5 years have seemed like a horrible very bad dream that won’t stop.
Have to say I agree. The right was opposed to Bosnia under Clinton but embraced Bush in Afghanistan and Iraq and have since opposed Libya, Syria, etc. The 24hr cheerleading by the media has made politics a sport. Very few seem to have heartfelt opinions anymore, they just echo talking points from whatever side they cheer from.
This elitist ass has never been in a schoolyard fight?
They did, moron. Now what?
Naivete? A belief that the republicans will win the senate this year and slow down the destruction? The energy boom? Obama's falling poll numbers? Pick one or more.
What have the republicans done so far to stop Obama? They have the house. And poll numbers won’t stop Obama from destroying what is left of America. The energy boom?
10 Ways Obama Is Hurting Americas Energy Economy
Kerry can say that with some authority... because he SO knows about ‘phony’!
2015 might be a real pivotal year. But I think America will survive, in some form.
I pray you are right.
Have you not seen the myriad repudiations of Bush’s “venture” into Afghanistan here on FR? I remember seeing countless criticisms of our war in Afghanistan. We must have been reading posts on two versions of FR apparently.
