“I just want to know if Congress is even involved in spending our money anymore.”

Only when the PRETENSE of legitimacy is needed... all the rest of the time, NO... the ‘President’ does what he wants.

The announcement came as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry landed in the Ukrainian capital Tuesday to show American support for Kiev’s military and political struggle against Moscow.

How come he never did the same for us during the Cold War? Just curious.

Because that was during Republican Presidencies....

It is stated one billion US bucks is for energy relief. Since the Ukraine receives it’s energy resource in the form of natural gas from Russia, you might say he is giving Russia one billion bucks.

Don’t actually DO anything worth doing, just say some words, wave a hand around, make pretentious statements of power, and then when people actually die because of you, turn around and say “what difference does it make”.

You forgot "...wave a piece of paper with a peace agreement on it around"

Yep, in the end, Russia will end up with the money.
Also, this is a promise from the one.
Promises from him are like vapor.

Putin says Gazprom to scrap gas price discount for Ukraine

By Alexei Anishchuk

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia (Reuters) - Russia’s top gas producer, Gazprom, will remove a discount on the price it charges Ukraine for gas from April, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday, stepping up pressure on Moscow’s neighbour.

(snip)

“If you are not paying us anyway and we are only noting a growing debt, let’s better note it under a regular price, not a lowered price. This is the commercial element of Gazprom operations,” Putin told reporters at his residence near Moscow.

That $1 Billion of American taxpayer money goes right to Russia, now that Russia has raised the gas price Ukraine will pay to a less subsidized level. Mr. Putin says, “Thank you.”

Kerry we are now 17.25 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT.

Perhaps not coincidentally, actions the Russians are contemplating if we impose sanctions include:

- dumping the dollar as the reserve currency
- stopping payments on all loans to American banks
- encouraging Russian citizens and interested others to fire sale their treasuries

All of which would likely trigger Great Recession 2.0 here. NOW will someone believe there are national security aspects to running a huge debt?

This is exactly how we brought about the collapse of the Soviet Union. We didn't defeat them militarily - we bankrupted them.

dumping the dollar as the reserve currency

Yeah, they should hold their reserves in Yuan. LOL!

- stopping payments on all loans to American banks

Small potatoes.

encouraging Russian citizens and interested others to fire sale their treasuries

Again, small potatoes.

All of which would likely trigger Great Recession 2.0 here.

Why?

So we’re going to give the Ukraine a billion dollars and Putin is going to increase what they pay for gas?
