Not entirely. For sensible people, you are correct, and Governor Palin's status as the best imaginable candidate and best imaginable president would be enough. However, we're talking about the far more numerous but equally important low-information swing voters. We can't throw away any possible advantage just because it's a stupid reason for a vote. Governor Palin, like all female candidates, needs to find a good hairstyle before she runs. The one she experimented with last night was not a good choice.
Whoever did her hair and her “I’m startled” eyebrows managed to turn a beautiful woman into a dork. Looks matter in our shallow society.

I'm not as interested in reaching rational voters like you as I am in reaching the shallower low-information voters. Remember that close to 50% of Americans voted for Obama in 2008, enough that fraud could give him the election, with no known qualifications other than diversity. Governor Palin has been working on her voice (I preferred her old accent, but the new one polls better), and she has been working on her ability to talk in an informed manner about geopolitical issues (she's always had more common sense and understanding of human nature than liberals or most conservatives, but now she sounds well-informed). Packaging matters, and she needs to choose her wardrobe, glasses, and hair carefully too - those are important to the swing voters who decide elections.
