Ukraine: The Haze of Propaganda

From Moscow to London to New York, the Ukrainian revolution has been seen through a haze of propaganda. Russian leaders and the Russian press have insisted that Ukrainian protesters were right-wing extremists and then that their victory was a coup. Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovych, used the same clichés after a visit with the Russian president at Sochi. After his regime was overturned, he maintained he had been ousted by “right-wing thugs,” a claim echoed by the armed men who seized control of airports and government buildings in the southern Ukrainian district of Crimea on Friday

Interestingly, the message from authoritarian regimes in Moscow and Kiev was not so different from some of what was written during the uprising in the English-speaking world, especially in publications of the far left and the far right. From Lyndon LaRouche’s Executive Intelligence Review through Ron Paul’s newsletter through The Nation and The Guardian, the story was essentially the same: little of the factual history of the protests, but instead a play on the idea of a nationalist, fascist, or even Nazi coup d’état.

I never thought I would see so many self-styled "conservatives" fall head over heels for a tinpot KGB kleptocrat like Putin.

It's unmanly, and not very intelligent either.

Yes, it’s fatuous and embarrassing as if they don’t know anything about what conservatives believe.

The Putin cult on FR seems to go on the premise that the enemy of my enemy is my friend due to his opposition to Obama and homosexual rights. They neglect that the enemy of my enemy may still be MY enemy.

Putin's a douchebag murdering scum. His only positive feature is his ability to accurately size up his opposition.

Obama is seeking Putin's signature on agreements, Putin is seeking to annex new territory for Russia. Both will get what they want.

” - - - White House is announcing an aid package to Ukraine of $1 billion - - - “

FINALLY! A highly successful backward solution to all known problems comes out of the Nobel Peace Prize winning White House!

“What is that?, “ You may ask? The answer, of course, is unlimited amounts of unfunded US Taxpayer Debt Dollars!

Yup! Works every time, and faster than you can can say “IcandoanythingIwantbyjustbyoassingCongress.” Nobel Laurette Soetoro-Obama just says: “Charge it to the next generation, please! Whoopee! My work here is done! Golf anyone?”

Secretary of Statements John “Cachup” Kerry will ride in, start writing rubber checks, and the ensuing bright rosy glow will spread around the World. Well, maybe not onto “the Arab Street.”

Although the always weak, Obamanation Foreign Policy is well on the way to its usual backward success, there are still a few topics that have yet to be resolved, as follows:

* Were is the Internet Video that caused the Ukrainians to force their beloved President to take the entire Ukrainian Treasury with him when he fled the country?

* Will “Catchup” Kerry enlist the help of famed video detective Susan Rice to help him track down and jail the perp. who made this awful, obscure, unknown video, that the United States had nothing to do with?

* Will the US Department of Statements spend more unfunded US Taxpayer Debt Dollars for the Ukranian Denial Ad than they did for the 2012 Benghazi Denial Ad?

* Note: Kerry must excel here because due to the obvious cruel onslaught of the aging process on Mrs. Bill Clinton, “Catchup” Kerry may be duty-bound to replace her as the obvious Democrat frontrunner in the 2016 Presidential race.

* Since POS Soetoro-Obama hit the famous RESET BUTTON on Russia, the NASA Space Program has had to be “dependent on the kindness of strangers” from Russia. Hopefully, our astronauts will be able to borrow food and vodka from the Russians while they wait for “Catchup” Kerry to resolve this Ukrainian “investment.”

* Will buddy Vlad Putin be as flexible with the Renowned Obamanation Foreign Policy as Soetoro-Obama was with Putin?

* Rumor has it that Vlad Putin has his eye on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his defusing of the Syrian “Red Line” Crisis.

* Another rumor is that Putin could win the Nobel Peace Prize if he sold all of Russia’s US Treasury Notes, requested that the USA be dropped from the G8, and appointed Snowden to be the Russian Ambassador to the United States of America.

Opposition to the Soros/EU instigated overthrow of the legitimate Ukrainian government doesn’t mean one is head over heals for Putin just a opposition to the Christian killing Al-Qaeda terrorist overthrow of the legitimate Syrian government doesn’t mean we are head over heals for Assad.

That "cult" doesn't bother me as much as the FReepers who post that LaRouche crap here without realizing what they are posting (yes, it's happened).

And then you have a couple FReepers who, for all practical purposes, should probably register as agents for the Russian government.

Opposition to the Soros/EU instigated overthrow of the legitimate Ukrainian government

Yanukovych was constitutionally impeached by the Ukrainian parliament.

Rather than face the charges, he fled the country, abandoning his office.

As per the constitution, the Ukraine will hold special elections to choose a successor.

The legitimate government of the Ukraine is unchanged.

I will note that George Soros wishes he had the power that the paranoid ascribe to him.

It must really stroke his ego to have people give him credit for stuff that he has no power to do.

The money is only one fiftieth of one percent of our federal budget.

If that is all it took to establish a firm alliance with a country as large and strategic as the Ukraine, it would be the most efficient, cost effective expenditure in the budget.

This is an extremely weak gesture by the Obama administration - it is a pretense of support.

The right way to support the Ukraine right now would be to sign trade agreements with them for energy and export to them at favorable prices.

Russia could do absolutely nothing: "Wait! This is not fair! We were going to make them pay double!"

Imagine the US government not paying a cent to anyone, but being able to tell Ukrainians: "Your winter heating bill just got cut in half, thanks to the US of A. You're welcome."

But that would require using the US Navy to protect US shipping, and we can't have that.

Svoboda is still part of the new Ukraine government and it is still neo-Nazi.

When will America get over the idea that there are good guys on one side and bad guys on the other?

Even our republican party is Rino + conservatives....half bad from the git go.

Good points!

Commie Obama has spent 4 billion dollars a day for the last 5 years, thanks to the Do Nothing RINOs in Congress.

Commie Obama illegally, (the House did not approve it), pledges money he spends during the first 6 hours of his normal Golf day toward making a distracting problem go away by simply throwing our money at the problem.

Keep in mind that Commie Obama is having the time of his life, as a former Foreign Student with failing grades in all of his classes at all of the Universities that he was enrolled, pretending to be interested in anything that does not involve “Fundamentally Transforming the United States of America” into a Nation that he does not hate as much anymore.

Svoboda is still part of the new Ukraine government and it is still neo-Nazi.

Svoboda is a minority party that does not speak for, or direct the policy of, the Ukrainian opposition.

When will America get over the idea that there are good guys on one side and bad guys on the other?

I think Americans are fully cognizant that there are only better guys and worse guys.

The Ukrainian opoosition - which Svoboda is latching onto opportunistically to try to build its own support - are clearly the better guys.

It's not even a contest.

Svoboda was given a CABINET post.

It wasn’t necessary, and they did it ANYWAY.

There are bad guys and worse guys....not better guys and worse guys.

Svoboda was given a CABINET post.

Correct.

It wasn’t necessary, and they did it ANYWAY.

Do you not understand how a parliamentary system works?

There are bad guys and worse guys....not better guys and worse guys.

So why even get up in the morning?
