One of the most vulnerable Democrats in the Senate my have just gotten more vulnerable.

In an interview aired Wednesday morning on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., said his GOP opponent, Rep. Tom Cotton, feels entitled to the seat because of his service as an Army infantry officer in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"There's a lot of people in the Senate that didn't serve in the military. ... I think it's part of this sense of entitlement that he gives off — almost as like 'I served my country, therefore elect me to the Senate.' That's not how it works in Arkansas," said Pryor, who holds the Senate seat his father held for almost 20 years.

Cotton, who's in his first term in the House, insists his military service taught him values and traits that "we need more of in Washington, D.C."

Democrats have been thinking this way for decades. Remember “Ma” Ferguson? I know a man who was sheriff following his mother. She took over the office when her husband, his daddy, died.

Now the Bushes are doing it. In fact, Clinton slammed W saying “He thinks he should be president just because his daddy was.” Then old man Bush and Clinton became best friends.

In some ancient cultures only great warriors could rule.

The Rat has never had a real job much less served in the military. He is too stupid to do anything on his own. And he is desperate to hold on to that seat.

Wow! What a POS. Every veteran in Arkansas should be made aware of that quote.

I don’t live in the district so I don’t know first hand but I seem to remember commentators here saying Duckworth’s entire strategy was to just repeat “I served in and was injured in Iraq” rather than talk about the issues.

Pryor, who holds the Senate seat his father held for almost 20 years.

And there is the problem with Congress. We now have an inter generational ruling class. It would seem the public prefers serfdom over freedom.

Well that is not what Cotton is doing. He is a good guy who actually worked at a real job unlike Mark (daddy’s boy) Pryor.

Born in Russellville, Arkansas, Cotton is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He worked as a law clerk and as an attorney in private practice before joining in the U.S. Army in 2005. Cotton served a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan, before leaving the military with the rank of captain in 2009. He worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company before returning to his hometown of Dardanelle, Arkansas to work on his family’s cattle farm.

His father is a Vietnam War veteran who served with the 4th Infantry Division. After graduating from Dardanelle High School in June 1995, he attended Harvard College, where he served as a columnist for the Harvard Crimson, and a member of the Harvard Republican Club. After graduating from Harvard magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, he went on to Harvard Law School, where he received his law degree in June 2002.

In June 2006, Cotton gained public attention after he wrote an open letter to The New York Times criticizing the paper’s publication of an article detailing a Bush administration secret program monitoring terrorists’ finances in which he called for three journalists, including the Times’ editor, Bill Keller, to be imprisoned for espionage. The article was widely circulated online and reprinted in full in several newspapers.

He served as a clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for Judge Jerry Edwin Smith and then engaged in private practice as an attorney with the law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Cooper & Kirk, where he concentrated in labor, employment, and constitutional law, in cases at all levels of state and federal courts. After leaving active duty, Cotton joined McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm. He subsequently returned to Dardanelle, where he works on his family’s cattle farm.

My apologies if that is how it came across, I just found it interesting that leftist who predictably acted shocked when Duckworth’s opponent pointed out that was all she was saying now accuse this guy of the same thing.

Hmmm - I guess it isn’t only Tea Party Republicans who make stupid statements under the pressure of a senate race....

Mark Pryor should be pounded just for appearing on MSNBC. Only people in blue states should appear on MSNBC.

With a Vet (with 2 combat tours, no less) in the race, it sure at hell does matter. Shows who is willing to put their life where their mouth is. The Citizen who is willing to make that sacrifice stands head and shoulders above those who shirk the first duty of a Citizen - ensuring the survival of the Nation. Read Heinlein's Starship Troopers for a detailed philosophical discussion on this.

We've been a Volunteer military since what, mid-70s? And weasel-boy Pryor can't be bothered to volunteer to actually serve the Nation (for even a minimum 3-and-out enlistment) that he expects to support his entitlement lifestyle?

Toast, he is. Wrong constituency for trash-talking about Vets.

Full Disclosure: I wrapped up 33+ years (Active & Reserve) about 18 months ago. 3 mobilizations, 1 tour in Afghanistan.

yes, and there are exceptions to the rule. JohnF’inKerry for one. Duckworth for another.

Well, who else was there, smarty?

No vet as a candidate - so military service was not a discriminating factor. As least I could be sure one was not a no-time-in-grade, no-real-job, American-hating Commie doper.

How about YOU?

Oh, and read my post below yours. There ARE exceptions to every rule. McCain, Kerry, Duckworth as examples.
