Ukraine’s interim president says the country’s parliament is starting procedures to dismiss Crimean lawmakers and to block a referendum approved Thursday that would ask the region’s voters whether or not they want to leave Ukraine for Russia.
Crimea’s parliament voted in favor of the split and called for a referendum to be held on March 16, but Oleksander Turchinov said the referendum is a farce and a crime organized by Russia’s military.

In the end, they’ll give it up. Hopefully sooner (before a lot of people die) rather than latter. If the leadership of Ukraine continue to push this, we’ll find out a lot about them.
Russia scored a propaganda point - the West’s talk of human rights, democracy and self-determination is just talk - for those who agree with it.
In the alternative watch the threats, ultimatums and punishment make their ugly appearance evident. And its not going to get Russia to buckle under to the West. The has made the resolution of the current crisis impossible.
The West stands a great deal more to lose from its hostile attitude towards Russia and its interests than Russia does and no one will win. America in particular, can forget about its now mothballed space program and cooperation with Russia on a wide variety of international matters.
I guess if Crimea is so critical, that justifies losing the whole world? So be it.

All it took was the protection of 20,000 Russian paramilitaries, the Black Sea fleet, Self-propelled artillery, and nuclear-armed bombers for democracy and joyful Russian annexation to blossom in Crimea out of the spontaneous popular support of a newly emancipated people.
I don’t quite get what you’re trying to say, but I don’t think either side cares about democracy. Democracy is a cheap word that’s bandied about to suit whatever agenda.
