The shanties by the Dreadnoughts made my evening. Thanks so much for posting!

I know a few myself and I will NOT post them. "Politically incorrect" doesn't even begin to cover it.

I am with you, Kabar. Grew up with it, heard it at my dad’s funeral at Arlington.

Powerful stuff.

On the lighter side, “What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor”...:)

Thank you. I was driving through East Texas on New Years Eve, I think in 1985 when Ricky Nelson’s plane crashed. I must have literally been within a mile but didn’t know until later that night.

I liked the version you linked to, but...to me, is just isn’t a song for feminine voices. Just doesn’t sound right to me.

But a nice version, nonetheless.

We Five: "Beyond the Sea"

A very different take on the song, featuring the amazing voice of Beverly Bivens.

Thanks, Kathy!

That's a great song. Perfect melody, and I love the lyrics!

Darin graduated from my high school, a few years before I attended. He came back to visit a few times..always caused a riot when he showed up. I never was there those times..dan it.. He established several prizes and scholarships, which are still be awarded to this day. Before he changed his name, it was “Walden Robert Cassoto.”

En zweept de storm ons voort,

“Rose Rose I Love You” by Frankie Lane

Here's the original version. According to the BBC, it's the only Chinese song to have been a hit in the West:

Mei Kuei, Mei Kuei, Wo Ai Ni (Rose, Rose I Love You)--Yao Lee (1940)
