DETROIT, MI (WLNS) - Closing arguments have ended in a challenge to Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage, which was approved by voters in 2004.

Detroit federal Judge Bernard Friedman says Friday he expects to make a decision within two weeks.

In 2001 he struck down the University of Michigan Law School admissions policy, saying that "Whatever solution the law school elects to pursue, it must be race neutral."

Which is kind of an interesting coincidence since we're waiting on the US supreme court to tell us whether the people's vote to ban affirmative action should stand.

"In 2011 Friedman dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Environmental Protection Agency against DTE Energy. The EPA wanted DTE to install more pollution controls at the state's largest coal-fired power plant. Friedman said it was too soon to tell what sort of impact recent changes at the plant would have on the environment."

In 2011 he told the EPA,

If the will of the people continues to get overturned, why bother with elections? Just let some power hungry/paid-off/special-interest judge make decisions. That’s what’s occurring anyway. /sort of sarcasm

I still can’t believe the federal appeals court tossed our affirmative action vote based on the fact that AA supporters were losing and couldn’t afford to fight anymore.

The US Supremes heard the arguments last fall but haven’t issued a ruling yet.
