Today’s Russia is a open society compared to the Soviet time. People can oppose Putin and they won’t be sent to Siberia. People can openly practice their religion and churches are being rebuilt. Russians can now travel abroad. It has to be admitted the dark side of Russia is massive corruption and lack of transparency. When all is taken into account though, one thing stands out: no one wants to go back to the Soviet time.

IIRC the leader of the opposition was placed under house arrest just as the Crimea issue started. Opposing Putin is a risky business.

Sure. But they might "accidentally" eat highly radioactive materials from the Russian nuclear weapons program...
