Lawmaker hopes upcoming daylight savings will be Tennessee's last
Johnson City (TN) Press ^ | March 7, 2014 | Tony Casey

When Tennesseans spring ahead this weekend, it could be the last time they change clocks.

That is, if a bill sponsored by state Rep. Curry Todd, R-Collierville, goes through. Todd’s bill calls for the state to stay on daylight saving time all year round. As usual, people are advised to set their clocks ahead one hour as the time change goes into affect at 2 a.m. Sunday. If the bill is written into law, it would be the last time adjustments would be made and no more clock changes would occur.

"There is no “extra daylight” associated with this ridiculous nonsense, the days are exactly the same length before or after."

So true! The tilt of the earth and position of the sun cannot be changed - seasons change and so do sunrise/sunset times. It gets darker in the winter earlier!! Why don't we legislate that it is ALWAYS SUMMER? Makes about as much sense!

Wouldn’t it make more sense just to move all 24 time zones 1 hour?

I believe I have proposed ceding west of Nashville to Arkansas. I have also objected to the Memphis criminal enterprise known as the Ford family.

If that qualifies as rude, I plead Guilty as charged.

DST was first adopted to replace artificial lighting so they could save fuel for the war effort in Germany during World War I.
One of the many innovations from the Great War.

Myself, I want a 13th month added to the calendar, so I get an additional Social Security check.

I'm with you on this (hahaha!). Plus, I'm retired and I don't care whether it's DST or ST. Pick one and stay there.

But if we are going to agree on keeping one time, we should stick with Daylight Savings Time instead of Standard Time.

I vote for that. Let's spring forward, enjoy a longer day, and stay there. No more switching. Takes me weeks to get used to the change in the spring.

The Ford family is NO longer a factor, and it is not up to you to try to push us off onto Arkansas. You have just verified my thoughts of the Hoity Toity snobs who think that their poop doesn't stink snobs of East Tennessee.

USSA??? He is back dawgs! The little coward just can’t resist any opening to bash our beloved country, the best country on earth, America. USSA? Nice coward, real nice. You stay right where you are coward, right in your third world craphole waiting for the muzzies and their dull blades. The ‘USSA’ is gonna look real good to you when your torture begins. WHERE IS THE QUOTE LIAR?

http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/HB1909.pdf

It looks like the proposal is for the entire state to permanently remain on standard time.

Std = 8 eastern, 7 central
Dst = 9 eastern, 8 central.

So in the winter it would be 600 in Albuquerque then 700 in Arkansas, 700 in Memphis, and 800 in Knoxville and 800 in North Carolina.

In the summer Albuquerque advances to 700, Arkansas advances to 800, Memphis stays at 700, Knoxville stays at 800, and North Carolina advances to 900.

Gee, I forgot what DST was when I left Tennessee, and the USSA.

You see? It's comments like that, that have made you into a pariah on this forum.

Those of us who complain about your incessant defiling of America might take it a little bit differently if you EVER had a good word to say about our country, but you don't. Not ever.

All you seem to do on this forum is brag about how you bravely ran away when your country needed you most. Well guess what, pal? I'm glad you removed your pollution from these shores. That's just one less America hater in my country.

He still does not get it either. He is so far gone that he seems to think stuck in some third world mess is desirable to living in the USA!! He seems to think he is the only one on FR that is living in his dream location or home. What a crock. Of course he does brag about his DWA (Dish Washing Appliance) AKA his wife, who hops to his every command. Bashing America comes easily for the little coward. Begging for America’s help when the muzzies and their dull blades come for him will not be so easy. Hey alex.....WHERE IS THE QUOTE LIAR?

I don't know if this is original with me (probably isn't) but it has long been my impression that little AlexW married someone from outside the United States for maybe three reasons: 1) he likely is homely as hell and would have difficulty finding an American woman to marry (though I say that with trepidation knowing of the looks of some women); 2) he lacks the personal strength to stand up to a woman with her own opinions...thus he looked for a foreigner who would worship his every move; and 3) he wanted to be a father and thus had to find someone much, much younger than he (ol' AlexW is in his late 60s).

More to be pitied than scorned, to quote Shakespeare, I think.
