Conspiracy theories spiral around MH370’s disappearance
The Malaysian Insider ^ | March 8, 2014 | By Lee Shi-Ian

--SNIP-- Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi was asked about the possibility of terrorism as the cause for MH370's disappearance.

A foreign reporter asked Aziz whether MH370 had been lost due to foul play.

"We cannot reveal too many details about our security," Aziz said.

"We have reviewed the closed-circuit television video footage pertaining to passengers and their baggages."

"So far, we are satisfied with everything," he said. --SNIP--

Malaysia Airlines said that the plane took off at 12.41am Malaysia time, and that the plane disappeared from air traffic control radar in Subang, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, at 2.40am.

That timeline seemed to suggest that the plane stayed in the air for two hours – long enough to fly not only across the Gulf of Thailand but also far north across Vietnam. But Lindahl of Flightradar 24 said that the last radar contact had been at 1.19am, less than 40 minutes after the flight began.

A Malaysia Airlines spokesman said on Saturday evening that the last conversation between the flight crew and air traffic control in Malaysia had been around 1.30am, but he reiterated that the plane had not disappeared from air traffic control systems in Subang until 2.40am.

The way of the world today has inspired me to first go with the conspiracy theory...is that a weakness or a strength?

Forty years ago, it would have been a weakness. I would say that today, the weakness lies with those who naively knee-jerk against consideration of conspiracy theories.

When people get smart, they automatically take any and every news report, even ones they find validating, with a huge grain of salt. Always look very carefully and critically at the news report, look for what it leaves out (that will tell you more about what happened than what's in the news report), and ALWAYS assume that there's a distinct possibility that a) someone, usually official sources, is lying outright and b) that news is "biased" not by what is IN the story, but by what is left OUT of the story. QUESTION THOROUGHLY everything in a news story, be suspicious of it, and assume that it represents or misrepresents a fraction of the whole, real story.

As a person trained and experienced in journalism and news reporting, I advise to ALWAYS be skeptical of both the veracity and totality of ANY and EVERY news report. Always.

Most Americans would be shocked if they knew how profoundly they have been mislead by a malevolent news media that tells partial truths to distort the whole truth, and how many things have happened that Americans have been conditioned by the MSM to disbelieve or belittle.

Government historians write the history that is taught in public and most private schools. The official public media is also considered to be written by the party in power. Will we ever know the full truth? No, but then is it absolutely necessary that we do?

One of these threads had a link to a PDF with the passenger manifest. I just found out I have coworkers on the flight. We’re a large multinational, so I probably don’t know any of them, but I wish I’d have snagged that list when I saw it....

If this plane was blown up in flight, which is likely because there was reportedly no distress signal, a satellite would have picked up the explosion. See if that gets reported.

Why would any government tell you anything it did not have to?

I think part of the problem is that people want immediate answers. In a case like this, where the plane just dropped out of the sky perhaps it would be best to just say “I don’t know” until there is some real information.

Of course you are correct. But once the info comes in — think critically and assume duplicity on the part of the “official” info providers.

A satellite would not necessarily have picked it up. That is an indication that you do not understand satellites of airplane explosions.

More interesting would be the tower tapes ( and there should be some) PLUS if they can find the black boxes. The bigger question is why haven’t they found any wreckage.

OPIR should have seen the signature. Whether an analyst would have noticed it immediately is another question.

And obviously you do understand satellites....

More interesting question though might be what if it wasn’t an explosion that brought the plane down.....what if some crazy just decided to nose dive it?

Might as well entertain the possibility of it hit by a small meteorite.
