The Strait Times ^ | March 8, 2014

Capt Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, the pilot of flight MH370 was a Penangite.

A fellow classmate from Penang Free School, Jason Lee, 53, said that he last met Zaharie in 2010 during their batch's reunion dinner.

"It was his long time ambition to be a pilot and he always told us back then how nice it was to fly around," he said on Saturday, adding that Zaharie was really a friendly person.

Lee said that Zaharie joined Malaysia Airlines in 1981 right after he completed his pilot training.

Another schoolmate Franklin Lim, said that Zaharie was a brainiac.

"He was a really nice guy to hang around with.

"He left for Mara after Form 5 and I have not seen him since then," Lim said.

Captain is older than the average jihadist with more than 18,000 flight hours.

At 18K flight hours, assuming he was involved, mid-life crisis or black mail?

With two fictitious passengers aboard (one with an Italian passport and the other with an Austrian one), the pilots are probably in the clear and the terrorist were likely Caucasian. It’s a brain teaser for sure, but obviously a terrorist act of some sort.

Nah...can’t be. Probably just a spontaneous explosion of the center fuel tank.

I don’t think Penang is a real hotbed of radicalism with its British history but anything is possible. The best Asian curry takes its name from Penang.

Penang was the cleanest and friendliest, foreign city I have ever visited. Smoked on Singapore.
