The heroin epidemic is not on the scale of those in the 1990’s and 1970’s.


It will be soon. Much of the current opiate abuse is masked by people abusing prescription pain medication. The illicit trafficking of pain pills is big business and abusers of opiates often end up on heroin when it’s more available and cheaper than pills.

Zohydro, a new opiate formulation, is just coming on the market and it is even more powerful than oxycontin and it has none of the abuse safeguards that stop people from injecting or snorting it. Will see how that affects the marketplace of legal and illegal opiates.
