(Texas governor Rick Perry at CPAC) Perry took jabs at targets including New York, California, and the Department of Education, noting that common-sense governance has been absent not only from blue states but from Washington, D.C.
“It’s time for a little rebellion on the battlefield of ideas,” the Texas governor said, paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson.
“We don’t have to accept recent history — we just need to change the presidency,” Perry continued. “We must elect the right kind of leaders to represent us to Washington.”

The only way to dislodge the entrenched Leftist Traitors who reside in the Departments in DC, IS TO CLOSE THE DEPARTMENTS. In many cases, NO ONE would miss the entire Department. In the case of the US Dept. of Education, the quality of education would improve without them.
But I think the day approaches when a national figure will say something somewhat similar but mean something very different from what Perry is suggesting.
If we cannot do it by this November at the ballot box, what you say is very relevant.
A LITTLE REBELLION?
Bit of an understatement.
Rick Perry acted and talked like a moderate after he was first elected, then approaching the 2010 run for re-election he revved up the tough talk and conservative message.
He’s been on that bandwagon ever since, but I am looking for some action to back the passionate speaking.
95 PERCENT OF REPUBLICAN ELECTED OFFICIALS EITHER FAKE CONSERVATISM OR REPUDIATE IT.
I see Perry in the 95 percent at this point. Ted Cruz is in the other five percent that really mean it when they speak a conservative message.
I'd say we need a LOT OF REBELLION.

And it is unnatural for Texas to admit defeat.
Rich Perry is a fiscal conservative. And he was that before he switched from the Democrat Party to the GOP.
He did solidify the GOP control of Texas. FACT.
I grew up 14 miles from the Perry’s. Know his parents, have never met Rick. He is slightly younger than I am. (I was never a Democrat.)
His family settled in this county 3 years before mine. Mine came in 1889. We have been here ever since. I was the first to move away, was gone 25 years. Moved back in 1995. It is home.
I know things about Perry that I did not support, but will not criticize him for any of that.
He is not a Ted Cruz. True. But he and his family were never Lefties. Never Ever.
That's a tactic - marginalize and smear some of the best choices we have. If only the 5% is truly conservative (and I can buy that), then the other 95% is at least stratified - reality is shades of gray and idealism taken to an impossible degree is black and white - and Perry is a lot closer to the 5% than those who will profit from those who instantly attack because of imperfections.
At the end of the day I think I know who make up the real five percent.
Ted Cruz certainly does and so does Louie Gohmert, along with Rand Paul and Sarah Palin.
Rick Perry makes the speeches that sound right at the right time. Before that he was pushing stuff like the Trans-Texas Corridor to break the Mexican border wide open.
Others have a more positive view of him, but I perceive him as the successor of W Bush following the “moderate” trail he blazed until public opinion in TX got in the way.
Now he’s gone conservative in his speechmaking and image making.
My congressman does that too and then has John Boehner in for a fundraiser.
People like Perry live and work in the corrupt GOPe political machine that needs to be torn down, not continued as is since its part of the problem, not the solution.
I’m for real conservatives only when I vote because people who associate with the political machine and its agenda always end up doing its bidding instead of what grassroots conservatives want.
LETS GET A REAL BALANCED BUDGET NOW AND STOP GROWING THIS NATIONAL DEBT....Guys like Paul Ryan in the 95 percent talk like there’s one ten years down the road, but when a politician says that they don’t really mean it.

I guess the question is, what delineates someone from the 5% and maybe being in the 6% or 7% - that was the gist of my original response. I want the best possible candidate in place, but i won't dismiss someone else out-of-hand if we fail to get our best choices on the slate.
Agree the trans Texas corridor wasn't necessarily a good idea - too much eminent domain and other issues. Kay tried to lverage it ito Perry wanting government in full control and it didn't serve her well to make the claims. What makes it harder to monitor/control a superhighway at the borders? It was based on efficient movement w/o clogging up normal interstates, etc. I don't like the idea, but it wasn't necessarily some insidious plot.
All politicians end up working in the "corrupt GOPe political machine that needs to be torn down". Some are better at resisting and opposing it (like a Cruz/Palin/Lee, but all are touched by it. Can't get around having to work with some of the most corrupt and remain an elected official.
Don't know what Perry says we should plan on for a budget. Rand may say it's possible, but we all know that it really isn't in the real world where one or two men/women will not have that drastic effect on the direction we're heading in. We need to throw out some anchors to slow the current trend down and start whittling away at the cancer. If we get a chance to excise a huge tumor - great; but it's not logical to expect it to happen that way.
I think we have the same hopes and wishes for our nation, we just have different visions of how/when it might occur. I'm a former dreamer of huge successes in a short time, but have adopted a more pragmatic vision due to the digestion of so much reality that flies in the face of my dreams. I'll do whatever I can to try to get the best candidates on the slate, but once we have a "last man standing", I'll support that person, no matter how flawed, over anything the Left throws at me. If the Left still gains a few inches, so be it because most of our flawed folks will at least serve as the anchor that keeps the Left from gaining a few feet. Once we keep the Dem of the time out of office, we can return to the task of pushing for ways to get better conservatives on tickets.
It sounds and tastes bad to me as I put it down, but at least it's reality based.
