Common Core 'architect' deals blow to opponents with SAT revamp. (same guy behind both)

“It’s a roundabout way to put pressure on states that opted out of Common Core,” said Whitney Neal, director of Grassroots at Freedom Works. “If you are legislator from Virginia let’s say, this will put pressure on you obtain material to make your district more appealing especially to homebuyers. SAT averages are often included in realtor information and high school success rate is always a selling point.”

The man known as the "architect" of Common Core has used his new job running the College Board to deal a devastating blow to critics of the national education standards.

The SAT was revamped to align with the Common Core Standards Initiative, the broad language and math standards adopted by 45 states despite growing complaints that it will result in nationalized control of K-12 curriculum. The announcement on Tuesday was made by College Board President David Coleman, who before taking the post in 2012, played a key role in designing Common Core.

Common Core supporters insist the program will ensure through testing a baseline level of learning throughout the nation, but critics say those tests will ensure a uniform curriculum springs up to prepare kids for the tests. Now, with the leading college entrance exam aligned with Common Core, critics acknowledge fighting Common Core could hurt students' chances of getting into universities and even property values.

Coleman's move to revamp the SAT in time for 2016 includes placing more emphasis on analysis, moving the scoring back to a 1,600-point scale, giving students the option of taking it on computer and replacing "old" SAT words with new ones deemed more common in higher education, such as "empirical" and "synthesis." Math questions will focus more narrowly on linear equations, functions and proportional thinking.

They should just append a food stamp/free housing/etc. application along with the “Vote Early and Often” pamphlet.

Good thing Obama federalized K-12 education so that after November, we can add Constitutional studies.

Good thing Obama federalized K-12 education

Good thing Bush (and Ted Kennedy) did, too. Remember “no child left behind?”

More evidence — as if any were needed — that the Federal government does NOT belong in K-12.

Who cares what the government mind-control asylums do.

Nothing will change until everyone who has committed their offspring to one of these government mind-control asylums is convicted of criminal child-abuse and thrown into prison.

Forget the commie scum in the WH and the two political parties that created this monstrosity.

The real treasonous villains are those who both saw, and explicitly condoned, the ongoing destruction of the former constitutional Republic, yet continued feeding their offspring into these asylums.

This has generated 25-years-worth of brain-dead voters our rulers needed to assure their permanent control over all aspects of our lives.

They are closing in on free thought. First the Commie Core indoctrination, then the SAT tailored to allow only those indoctrinated by Commie Core to be successful with it. Danger!!

The 1985 book by Alan Bloom, “The Closing of the American Mind” illustrated the “stupid” kids coming into his class, after 12 years indoctrination-—just brain-dead kids who had Nike Ethics-—”Feel good, do it.” They knew nothing about anything important.....who couldn’t even understand anything Shakespeare wrote.....etc. etc.

The educational system was the Leftists big coup after they took over Hollywood. They took control over education totally in the 70s.

With controlling the minds of 89% of children, determining what they “think” is “good” and “evil”——they got us good! They are erasing Christian/Classical Ethics to a regressive pagan third world collective ethic of people easy to control.

The SAT was revamped because it was a crappy test and has been for many decades. It does a very poor job of determining who will do well in college. More kids take the ACT and it has been that way for years due to the fact that it does a better job of gauging critical thinking skills.

When I saw the essay had become optional, it became very obvious to me that it was revamped so academia could pretend that many students who couldn’t read or write English (including many blacks and Hispanics) were “educated”. The left may well believe that racial preferences will fall in the Supreme Court (as the last Americans that lived during Jim Crow pass on, and the preferences become impossible to defend); as it stands now many blacks feel white women should be excluded from affirmative action, and they also know they’ve taken a back seat to Hispanics demographically.

See # 16.

Also, while many people think the teachers’ unions support the Dems automatically, they are missing the larger picture where in fact those unions OWN the Democratic Party (it is their political arm). Obama makes this clear when he throws “hire 100,000 more teachers” into any discussion (regardless of relevance - he can be talking about “cash for clunkers” and throws it in there, too). The amnesty issue in particular is to keep the income flowing by keeping schools open when they haven’t seen a legal student in years; the Planned Parenthood ties are to ensure the “right” people reproduce. Of course, the wealth redistribution is to pass some of those tax dollars on to the unions.

Maybe people should take the ACT instead.

The "progressives" have probably deeply infiltrated the ACT, as well, and are waiting to "modernize" that as well.
