Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) said Sunday that President Obamas controversial healthcare law has been great for residents of his state.
Crist has sharply criticized the healthcare law in the past. But the former Republican governor and 2008 GOP vice-presidential short-lister is running for his old post this year as a Democrat this year.
Crist said during an appearance on CNNs State of the Union that he would have no problem running on the healthcare bill, which is known colloquially as ObamaCare, as he seeks to regain his former office.
I dont think so at all, Crist said when he was asked if the healthcare law was hurting Florida citizens, especially seniors, as Republicans have alleged.
I think its been great, Crist continued. I know the rollout was difficult, Im sure the president feels that way too. I had the opportunity to visit with him Friday in Miami I know that he has a compassionate heart. People getting healthcare is like a civil right. People need to have shelter, they need food, they water and they need healthcare and they deserve it. Were the richest country in the world and we ought to provide it and God Bless [Obama] for doing it.
Crist is seeking his former post this year against his successor as Florida governor, Rick Scott (R), who took office in 2011 after Crist left office after one term to run a unsuccessful Senate bid. The Crist-Scott race is expected to be one of the most closely watched gubernatorial races this year, and it is also shaping up to be one of the most expensive.
Crist said Sunday that Republicans in Florida and other states that have large elderly populations were unfairly criticizing ObamaCare for its potential impact on programs like Medicare, which is historically very popular with senior voters.
People on the other side are using that as a fear tactic and its wrong, Crist said. Thats why we have the Affordable Care Act, exactly why. To make sure that they dont lose it in the future, that they have some place that they can, that they can get healthcare, and its more affordable than what they may have had before. Thats the whole idea, and thats why I think at the end of the day, this is going to be a very popular program because its doing the right thing for the people of our country and my state.
Crist said other Democrats that are running away from Obama and the healthcare ought to strengthen up.
The presidents a smart guy and hes doing the right thing, he said.
Crist endorsed Obamas bid for reelection in 2012 and he announced his conversion to the Democratic Party during a visit to the White House after the election that year.
Crist is the answer to anyone who wonders whether simply voting R is a winning strategy.
The Republicans are no longer a PARTY. They are nothing but a large collection of political hacks doing everything and everyone they can to stay elected and on the high level dole. A pox on all of them.
Another liberal fool showing his ignorance.
Is there anything,( and I do mean anything) that he wouldn’t do if he thought it might get him a vote?
Gosh, I read that as “Christie”....easy mistake to make
I can’t think of a single thing, he and 0bummer could be half brothers.
Great an exposing a complete and utter fraud. Illegally postponed dates, exemptions, and rule changes. No planning documentation, development testing, or security. No screening of facilitators, etc.
FUCC
I see we have a candidate and his family for crapcare, is he willing to give up his American taxpayer platinum plan give it to a service person and his or her family in return for crapcare he loves so much? I thought so! hypocritical lying bastard politician scum
“Crist is nothing more than a lying Pol with no principles. “
Yeah, and he fits right in with most of the rest of them from both parties. They say we get the government that we vote for, and “we” continue to vote for low-lifes like Crist.
And I care what an overtanned fag thinks because......
Indeed. Both Crist and Christie are/were RINOs and I cannot see why either a true conservative or a true liberal would vote for either of them.
Well put, Mr. Grist is an idiot that is dazed and confused.
The Group of Other Progressives (GOP) is at it again i see...doubt this works for them but the elect are getting wealthy in the process.
“People getting healthcare is like a civil right. People need to have shelter, they need food, they water and they need healthcare and they deserve it. Were the richest country in the world and we ought to provide it and God Bless [Obama] for doing it.
First place winner of the 2014 “Most Delusions in Two Sentences” Award, devastating Nancy Pelosis’ and Debbie Shultzermans’ multiple entries with extreme prejudice.
Well put, he out-Pelousied and out-Shultzied both of them.
——People getting healthcare is like a civil right——
That “right” already exists by law....public hospitals cannot deny you basic healthcare services.
Politicals are purposely conflating health care with health insurance...
Getting someone else to pay for your insurance is not a right it’s theft. ...
Crist needs to work with federal and state lawmakers to propose a healthcare amendment to the states for ratification as required by the Constitution's Article V. And if the Article V supermajority of states should choose to ratify the proposed amendment, then Congress will have the constitutional authority that it actually needs to establish a national healthcare program and Crist will be a hero.
In the meanwhile, note that the states already have the 10th Amendment-protected power to individually establish their own healthcare programs. This is evidenced by Massachusetts's RomneyCare. So the states may want to experiment their own healthcare programs for now instead of letting Congress establish a national program.
That statement should disqualify him from as much as running for Dog Catcher in Hollywierd.
