Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) said Sunday that President Obamas controversial healthcare law has been great for residents of his state.
Crist has sharply criticized the healthcare law in the past. But the former Republican governor and 2008 GOP vice-presidential short-lister is running for his old post this year as a Democrat this year.
Crist said during an appearance on CNNs State of the Union that he would have no problem running on the healthcare bill, which is known colloquially as ObamaCare, as he seeks to regain his former office.
I dont think so at all, Crist said when he was asked if the healthcare law was hurting Florida citizens, especially seniors, as Republicans have alleged.
I think its been great, Crist continued. I know the rollout was difficult, Im sure the president feels that way too. I had the opportunity to visit with him Friday in Miami I know that he has a compassionate heart. People getting healthcare is like a civil right. People need to have shelter, they need food, they water and they need healthcare and they deserve it. Were the richest country in the world and we ought to provide it and God Bless [Obama] for doing it.
Crist is seeking his former post this year against his successor as Florida governor, Rick Scott (R), who took office in 2011 after Crist left office after one term to run a unsuccessful Senate bid. The Crist-Scott race is expected to be one of the most closely watched gubernatorial races this year, and it is also shaping up to be one of the most expensive.
Crist said Sunday that Republicans in Florida and other states that have large elderly populations were unfairly criticizing ObamaCare for its potential impact on programs like Medicare, which is historically very popular with senior voters.
People on the other side are using that as a fear tactic and its wrong, Crist said. Thats why we have the Affordable Care Act, exactly why. To make sure that they dont lose it in the future, that they have some place that they can, that they can get healthcare, and its more affordable than what they may have had before. Thats the whole idea, and thats why I think at the end of the day, this is going to be a very popular program because its doing the right thing for the people of our country and my state.
Crist said other Democrats that are running away from Obama and the healthcare ought to strengthen up.
The presidents a smart guy and hes doing the right thing, he said.
Crist endorsed Obamas bid for reelection in 2012 and he announced his conversion to the Democratic Party during a visit to the White House after the election that year.
Well that’s just ridiculous Mr. Crist.
The presidents a smart guy and hes doing the right thing... For the Muzzzie Brotherhood.
My response to Charlie is simply to follow his self-selected political affiliations; R -> I -> D spells RID -> Bye Charlie!
Welcome Brother,I am afraid that reading “Our Enemy, the State” by Albert J. Nock is mandatory for fellow Freemen.
0’Care ia abolitely ‘fabulous’ to those exempt from it...
Beware of the PC expression, "civil rights," indicated in the OP. This is because the states have granted Congress the power only to strengthen rights which the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect. This is evidenced by Sections 1 and 5 of the 14th Amendment.
Note that corrupt federal politicians have used the idea of civil rights for decades to exploit low-information citizens imo, citizens who have never been taught the Founding State's division of federal and state government powers. Such politicians do so by "promising" new civil rights to win votes from low-information voters.
The problem is that low-information voters do not understand that Congress has no constitutional authority to establish new rights, rights not expressly protected by the Constitution. Citizens need to work with their state lawmakers to amend the Constitution for new rights.
0Care ia absolutely fabulous to those exempt from it...
Ignorant fruit cake
Beware! I understand that Dems count dog votes. (arguably sarcastic)
Is this from his personal experience, having enrolled and actually used it?
Didn’t think so.
That is delusion worthy of prompt medical attention.
On a good day.
I thought Crist changed to DimocRat.
Crist may learn from the experience of Arlen Specter. After flying his true colors as a democrat, he lost the next primary. Apparently, even the democrat party is wary of a traitor.
5.56mm
Nothing could be more appropriate, I’ve never understood how anyone could trust a turncoat.
Amen to that.
Yep. But, if he was running against a democrat many conservatives would vote for him if he’d just put that “R” back at the end of his name.
Charlie FAG shooting for 4 votes instead of just 3. . . .
Must not take much to buy this guy. Someone throw him a $50 dollar bill and get him to say 0bamaCare sucks again.
