Now he wants to be lieutenant governor.
So when he sat down with KDKA political editor Jon Delano for his first TV interview since announcing, the basic question was--why?
"Having had a career in education for two decades, education is an issue I fell very passionately about... I felt like a lot of different people talked about doing a lot of different things politically, and I looked at it and thought this is where I can do the most good for the most people in the state of Pennsylvania".......
Delano: ... Jay Paterno, he's a nice guy, but he's running on his father's name. Are you?"
Paterno: No, not at all. I'm running--I'm a guy who's been on my own in terms of building my own reputation, my own life, my own family for over two decades.....
Paterno says he wants to talk issues important to citizens like education, and he thinks he can help the Democratic candidate for governor beat Tom Corbett.
"Because I was on the road recruiting and being all over the place. I'm very comfortable campaigning anywhere in the state," he said....
...defeating Corbett is not personal, says Paterno, even though polls show many Penn State fans angry at Corbett for his treatment of Penn State and voting to fire Joe Paterno as coach.
Delano: Is that a reason for you to run for office?
Paterno: Not at all. Not even remotely. That's not something I even talked about. All we talked about is what good can we do for the most people of Pennsylvania. And I know that's a story that people won't want to hear, but it's just the truth. This is so much bigger than that.

Obama called Jay when his father died and now Jay is in Democrat politics in PA.
Republican Governor Tom Corbett was Attorney General of Pennsylvania when the Sandusky investigation was opened and a grand jury convened to hear evidence in the case.
The Democrats have exploited the Penn State fan anger over the fallout of Sandusky with their Attorney General candidate winning in 2012 with four percent more of the vote than Obama.
Between the Sandusky thing and a 28 cent a gallon gas tax hike he signed off on late last year, our liberal Republican governor is in big political trouble this year.
RINOs often do more damage than Democrats.

What a sad statement about the state of Pennsylvania. Imagine prosecuting a pedophile costs you votes when up for reelection. What kind of sick electorate is that. This scrapes the bottom of the barrel. A voter who decides to vote Democrat because he’s mad Corbett prosecuted Sandusky I do not think can be considered a human being, but a simian like creature. A person must have some serious mental problems to vote against someone who prosecuted and uncovered a pedophile case.

I’ll take Corbett over ANY PA Democrat ANY day.
They think Corbett is responsible for the consequences of Sandusky as far as Penn State’s football program and Coach Paterno are concerned.
Corbett raised gasoline taxes 28 cents a gallon last fall and has refused to promote real reform of existing property taxes, the unsustainable government employee pension etc. etc.
Our legislature has Republican majorities but the real majorities in our legislature are union majorities.
One RINO rep in our legislature got 10-thousand bucks of teacher union money to fight back a Tea Party primary challenge two years ago.
The GOP is making election year noise about government not automatically deducting union dues from government employee paychecks but I think its just noise to divert attention from the tax hike they dumped on us last year.
No anti-union legislation can pass our legislature in the end.
I won’t vote for RINO’s anymore including Corbett this year.
Imagine prosecuting a pedophile costs you votes when up for reelection...From what my Democrat ‘friends’ say, they are pissed at Corbett for not prosecuting Sandusky YEARS ago, when he was on the board of trustees at PsU. I tried to explain he needed a Grand Jury indictment but couldn’t get one with only innuendos, no witnesses and no accusers at the time. Falls on deaf ears. Once the saw the gravy train ride down the tracks they had lots of corrabative evidence.
What did Jay know, and when did he know it?
The Democrat Attorney General elected in PA in 2012 plays the cards that Corbett covered things up or delayed the investigation to protect Penn State.
The fans (fanatics) are blinded and just want to strike out at somebody, anybody for what happened and this will affect the election this year I am convinced and may be the reason a Democrat defeats Governor Corbett this fall.
I’m voting for the Tea Party challenger Bob Guzzardi in the GOP primary in May.
The 28 cents, over 5 years, sucks for sure.
ANY Democrat will raise taxes even more AND do what they can to crush the natural gas industry in PA.
Corbett leaves a lot to be desired. I just see greater LOSS and destruction to our state if I sit by and allow a Democrat to win. Make no mistake, It is either Corbett or an Obama style Democrat.
When Corbett raised the gas tax, he set himself up for some Democrat to pulverize him on not taxing the natural gas extraction.
They can wage class warfare on that level saying the little guys pay at the pump while the big guys pay nothing.
Gas extraction is taxed at 11 percent in North Dakota and the industry hasn’t been crushed there.
Sarah Palin fought to get the energy industry to pay some tax while they exploited Alaska’s natural resources.
There was prosperity along with the taxation.
She found a crony relationship between the Republican political machine and the energy industry when she chaired the oil and gas commission there.
Democrats protect a union in Pennsylvania by not allowing liquor sales in private stores instead of state stores.
Are Republicans protecting the natural gas industry by not taxing extraction????

The Gas Industry should be paying some type of tax for the value they are extracting from the state.
My fear, as always, is how the tax dollars might be squandered.
The Dems will dump it on unionized public schools. of course.
