The famous story was that when the Ottoman Empire was attempting to invade Romania, Vlad attacked the advance guard, killing them to a man and lining the road to Sighișoara with their heads on a stake. For some reason, this demoralized the main body of the Ottoman and the invasion failed, almost before it began.
