Michigan woman dead for six years found only after money runs out

For six years the bills were paid, the grass was cut and no one noticed the body of the dead woman sitting in the back seat of a car in a garage of a residential Pontiac, Michigan neighborhood.

Her mummified body was finally found this week by someone dispatched to check on the property that fell into foreclosure after the money ran out of her account and the mortgage payments stopped, police said on Friday.

"It is kind of the perfect storm for a mysterious set of circumstance and a challenge because of the extreme degradation of the body," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a telephone interview.

The woman has not yet been positively identified, but it is thought she is a person who stopped working in 2008 and had set up all of her bills to be paid automatically from her bank account.

She is also thought to have worked as a contractor in the financial department for a major automobile company.

A neighbor cut her lawn, her mail was sent to the post office and there was no family living nearby, Bouchard said.

I am impressed that no plumbing, heating or electrical issues arose for six years.

Must have been a great home. Two nights ago I'm sitting in my dining room and heard a loud bang followed by the sound of water running. A water pipe burst under my deck. Lucky I was home to shut the water off. Last year I was away from the house for 30 minutes, and came back to find water rushing down my driveway - a water heater hot water pipe burst, sprayed through the garage sheetrock and was about to penetrate through the living room sheetrock. Good thing I caught it in time. These things happen to regular people.

I agree with you 100%.
My husband always said that people need to talk about their day when they get home. Some ought to listen.

If one's family is gone, there are always friends.

SOMEONE has to hear the 'ramblings." More often than not they reflect our own "ramblings." You listen down at the local coffee shot. Good on you! God will bless you.

Yeah I burn nat gas and have a small well insulated home but if somebody wanted to, I suspect they could generate enough free catalogs to make some serious heat. Despite the age of the internet, we get an astounding number of catalogs, most of which are women’s clothing and similar.

These things happen to regular alive people. LOL

I just had the plumber here to replace a zone valve in the heating system. It was beginning to leak so sooner or later it would have blown completely and ... water running down the driveway. I don't know what the boiler would have done. Run continuously filling the garage with steam!?!

I don't know. Sh*t happens when you least expect it. I had installed a high-priced flexible pipe to the hot water outlet of the water heater, flexible steel braided over thick rubber with special gaskets to prevent corrosion. Didn't last but a couple years before it burst through the rubber and steel braid. I bought a stronger all steel coiled pipe this time. A whole section of sheetrock in the garage turned to mush and the hot spray was about to penetrate the other side sheetrock into the living room, would have ruined my hardwood floors, not to mention the furniture. Good for you being proactive after finding a leak.

Regarding people living alone: one of my good friends had an agreement with a neighbor. If the neighbor woman saw the blinds open in his living room, all was well. If not, then something was wrong. Likewise with her. After not seeing his blinds open, she called the cops. They went in his house and found him dead of a heart attack, sitting on his sofa from the prior night. This happened two years ago and I miss him. 62 years old.

Sorry about your neighbor. That was a good arrangement though.

re the OP story. I heard today that the woman took frequent trips so people didn't think much of a lack of activity there. However she seems to have voted in two elections after she was dead. Makes me wonder who would vote using her name and voter registration unless they knew she was dead? The report also said they hadn't positively identified the body as hers yet. Hmmm
