RED ALERT: Romney To Gather Aides In Utah
Conservative HQ ^ | 3/10/14 | CHQ Staff

Posted on 03/10/2014 7:01:15 PM PDT by xzins

The Washington Post reports that failed establishment Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is gathering his “political brain trust” at a swanky Park City, Utah ski chalet later this month.

If political brains were a prerequisite for an invitation it seems like Romney could have held the gathering in the broom closet of one of his mansions, but conservatives should not dismiss the threat to the prospects for a conservative victory in 2016 that Romney revanchists represent.

As The Post reports, and we hear from time to time with incredulity, there is chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

The reunion is expected to include some senior campaign staff and debate prep advisers, including Beth Myers, Stuart Stevens, Russ Schriefer, Bob White, Peter Flaherty, Eric Fehrnstrom, Austin Barbour, Gail Gitcho and others of the so-called “brain trust” that managed to give away the 2012 presidential campaign.

According to The Washington Post article, Romney is also planning another get together this summer in Park City, where for the third straight year he will invite top political, business and policy leaders for an ideas summit. In 2012, during his campaign, the retreat included several possible vice presidential hopefuls, and in 2013, many of the GOP's leading 2016 presidential contenders attended, including Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

We’re inclined to believe Romney, who has been adamant in saying he will not run for president a third time, even though this this is the same Mitt Romney that said during the campaign "I've been as consistent as human beings can be" in response to challenges regarding his constant flip-flops and evolving principles of convenience on matters related to the conservative agenda.

It says a lot about the caliber of advice Mitt Romney received that that in the midst of the worst economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s he was soundly defeated in a 332 to 206 Electoral College blowout that saw him lose virtually every closely contested state, including the must-win states of Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.

In any logical universe Romney’s staff and consultants, such as Beth Myers, Stuart Stevens, Russ Schriefer, Bob White, Peter Flaherty, Eric Fehrnstrom, Austin Barbour, Gail Gitcho and pollster Neil Newhouse would never be hired to run or consult on a national Republican campaign again and no one would give a dime to any organization that would be so improvident as to take the kind advice that led Romney to lose in 2012 by almost 5 million votes.

The danger presented by the Romney pow-wow in Utah isn’t a nascent Romney presidential run, it is that Romney's “stand-for-nothing” style of politics will continue to exert its destructive influence on the Republican Party through the influence of his “brain trust” and the content-free campaigns they advise Republicans to run.

Oh I don’t mind. Romney, Jeb, Christie... let them split the RINO vote goodness knows how many ways. Let them suck up all the K-Street cash. Hopefully we don’t do the same. Tell Santorum to sit down too.

” - - - Romney’s “stand-for-nothing” style of politics will continue to exert its destructive influence on the Republican Party - - - “

Romneycare” Romney stood for; IMHO, the following:
* Romneycare for all States, but not Obamacare for the entire Country;
* No Campaigning in the summer;
* No fire-in-the-belly attacks on Obama;
* No fire-in-the-belly speeches to the voters;
* Apologize for pointing out that 47 % of Americans are a sorry bunch of free-loading parasites!

A lot of me agrees with you. Egos have been instrumental. So has funding. Someone has provided enough funding for multiple conservatives to get into the race initially.

But the funding is designed to have conservatives split the conservative vote (which is the larger vote) and then get picked off one by one leaving the field to the “moderate”.

My view is even if he runs again he won’t be a significant factor in the primaries.

Wish that were true, but look what the primaries keep giving us.

Since Christie is not good for 2016, the RINOs are probably recruiting Romney again - the most winnable candidate who was going to carry all the independents to a landslide victory. Everybody else was not electable per some on this forum.

He endorsed a US Senate candidate here in Iowa last week. I wondered why he would care. This would make sense.
Lets hope we get someone worth supporting this time; and not Romney.

there is chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

I don't believe it for a second.

For the sake of argument though, let's say Romney runs.

I just can't see him securing the nomination.

Let's keep the argument going, and say he DOES run, and DOES secure the nomination though.

If that were the case, I can't see Conservative's voting for him, NOR can I see Conservatives sitting at home on their hands an entire election cycle.

That can only mean one thing in my mind: if Romney runs and secures the Republican nomination, I see the birth of a Conservative Party.

There's more than enough time to get a Conservative on the ballot once the March, 2015 primaries have concluded. It would require 50 independent state organizations to secure enough petition signatures to do it, but it can be done.

Those who say it can't don't remember the names John Anderson and Ross Perot. (Pat Buchanan also, but not so much since that was the Perot Organization's doing...)

I ain’t voting for any of these damn useless GOP bums.

I am going to vote for the guy who visibly and vocally stood up for my freedom and my rights and our freedom and our rights. Furthermore, in doing this, he took damage to his character and reputation, and I appreciate this man for his stand.

That man is Ted Cruz.

No one else did this in this time of American tyranny, so I stand with NO ONE ELSE other than Ted Cruz.

The rest of ‘em can KMA.

If he does try another run, two things from the last run will come back to haunt him.

1. He said after the election that he didn’t really want to be president.

2. He indicated that he really didn’t want to run for the presidency.

When Karl Rover shows up you know the establishment fix will be in...

They will be desperate to find yet another moderate, or foist a libertarian on us...

At which point the Cruz effort will be vilified and rejected by ALL sides...Democrat just have to sit back and bus in their votes to win the next few elections...Their job is made in the shade...

No matter what you hear on TV or the radio...

“Let’s you and him fight!” the media cries...

“A stunning 29 percent of Republicans had an unfavorable view of the GOP, while only 14 percent of Democrats had an unfavorable view of their party. Only 67 percent of Republicans had a favorable view of the GOP, while 85 percent of Democrats had a favorable view of the Democratic Party.”

Willard needs to find another hobby.

Hell, he can even start a brand new cult.

Guyana is a good place to settle his followers, just ask Jim Jones.

America is ready for “Open Borders Romney”,
and “Polygamy Romney”.

America WANTS RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE for Everyone

Some animals dream that Romney may even finally
impose their long-sought civil recognized beastiality.

Why not? Who does not want to marry the dog
they put on the roof of their station wagon?

Romney 2016 - He will give us what we deserve.
