While he has devoted followers among the tea party faction (and is tied with N.C. House Speaker Thom Tillis in a new poll), he would have little chance of winning even moderate Republicans in a general election, let alone any independents or Democrats.

This comment fails the sanity test. There are too many voters with common sense who believe in fiscal responsibility; who believe that life begins at conception; who know that men and women are different; and who practice "In God we Trust."

The real faction are the "Establishment Republicans" who are fooling themselves. In reality they are a growing minority, that is, their number is decreasing.

“This comment fails the sanity test.”

Yeah, no kidding. We’re not talking about Maine here. We’re talking about North Carolina.

These types look to Romney in 2012. “why he was a moderate” they’ll say “and he barely won North Carolina!”

A conservative nominee would have taken North Carolina hands down! As will a conservative senate candidate.
