They’re alive — the “ringing cellphone” theory. A blog post on the Chinese government’s China.org.cn site reported that “19 families signed a joint statement requesting Malaysia Airlines to … explain why they could get through to their family members’ cellphones but they could not hear anything and the calls hung up.”

“They submitted the telephone numbers to the airline, which failed to respond to their questions with active measures,” according to the site.

Maybe you should comment on the missing flight since that’s what this thread is about. Theories such as it being shot down are not fantasy, nor is it having been abducted by an unidentified flying object (UFO). If it’s never found, prove it wasn’t.

Some expert has commented that the ringing phones could be no more than the system trying to find the particular phones being dialed - personally I think it’s a dry run to find out how far they can fly a plane undetected before they can get to a specific destination - look out White House......

Last year I was on the lovely tropical island of Kwajalein. No, repeat no cell phone service on US systems (there is a local system but it is pretty much Marshall Island only). Land line or internet protocol only if you have access, which is pretty much limited to a couple of areas.

People calling me left voice mail messages even though my outgoing message said that I was not able to receive any phone calls until I got back to the states. You could tell who didn't listed to the message by what their message was; they didn't notice that I wasn't in cell range, in fact my phone was off.

The “ringing” they’re hearing is the computer trying to find a network. It’ll ring a few times then hang up. Now, if they were getting a voice mail recording, I think that might mean something.

One picture I saw of the two Iranian passengers traveling on stolen passports showed one guy wore a cross. That doesn’t amount to much, but it is interesting.

I am now seeing (but do not personally believe) that this is about the 20 employees of Freescale Semiconductor (Austin, TX) who were on board. It is said that this group of 20 employees worked on data security and STEALTH technologies. I understand little more of this theory, whether it's CHINA that did it ("Tell us all the details of your research") or the USA ("Some of you are ethnic Chinese and we have proof you guys are giving away the tech that Uncle Same paid you for").

I am not subscribing to this theory, but it is out there.

I’ve been out of coverage areas and when I got back into a coverage area, voicemails or records of missed calls pop up. They were stored elsewhere until my phone reconnected with the satellite or tower. My callers “reached” me but didn’t, really.

I have had that happen, too. After two weeks on a drilling location, drive back into tower range and the phone goes nuts.

It’s been four days. Those phones’ batteries are dead.

Carrier software sends calls straight to voicemail (carrier disk banks) if the ping to the phone # is un-returned.

Whatever the prob was, that jet made an intact ocean landing and has sank to the bottom. Therefore no debris. Until the black box or boxes ping, and their radius is only 3 miles from crash site, will this plane be found.
