millennials Unfriend Democrats

Republicans can’t win over the generation that’s liberal on most social and economic issues, but Democrats can’t seem to win them back.

The Republican Party’s struggles to win the votes of the Millennial generation are no secret, but Democrats shouldn’t break out the champagne: America’s youngest voting generation isn’t in love with either party.

In both the 2008 and 2012 elections, young voters broke for President Obama by historic margins and carried their Democratic lean down-ballot. This big swing toward Democrats wasn’t just the product of young people always leaning more liberal but reflected a more monumental shift toward generational fault-lines in politics that would favor the left in the future.

I will have to see it to believe it. They are too much into smoking pot, gay marriage, and hooking up. All Republicans offer is an improved economy, potential jobs, and a smidgen of their dignity back. Who wants to trade that for government run healthcare? (sarcasm)

‘talk to them about economics’...I did just that over the weekend. My wife was on the phone with her niece when the dryer buzzer went off and she handed me the phone. The niece, bright and 24, was fortunate to find a job in her field after grad school but also voted for the dark lord because ‘he was for gay rights’. I asked if others in her grad school cohort had found work and she said no; that her field (museums) depended on government funding and private contributions. Played to her sense of personal responsibility which led to the bigger picture of wealth production, redistribution and pro-growth policy. Wrapped it up when she made a comment about the political ‘bickering’ and told her that the ‘bickering’ was serious business because the Founders’ chose that over the historic method of bullets and swords. Did any of this make an impression...don’t really know but I know she heard ideas and principles she was never exposed to in 18 years of ‘education’.
