Im really a bit shaken by this one

Silver efex Pro...is the photoshop plugin of choice for processing black and white photos and used by professionals worldwide.

GOOGLE? wsnt picassa enough for them?

This just in....but from 2012...... Google announced that it has acquired Nik Software, the San Diego-based maker of standalone and plug-in image editing tools. While Nik has a wide portfolio of products for photographers, industry insiders agree that the impetus behind the move was to acquire Snapseed, Nik's mobile image editing and sharing app.

In light of Facebook's earlier acquisition of the highly popular Instagram app, the move to acquire one of its rivals is clearly seen as part of an effort to make Google+ more attractive to mobile photographers

A purchase...sale...driven by..... a smart phone app

you bet.

googles got the bucks to buy just abut anything apparently.

i hope they have the good sense to retain the people who write the NIK software..and not head off into Mobile App Land, leaving photographers high and dry...

I use Nik with CS6 on my PC and it’s little brother, Snapseed App on my ipad. Great image editing software.

Snapseed is a terrific app. Its filters are much better than Instagram.

I have to say I love Picasa. When I come home from a day shooting kids football. I usually will have 1000-1500 images to plow through and upload to a share site for the other parents. Picasa is by far the fastest and easiest tool to rapidly peruse, crop, and apply simple edits to massive stack of images.

I dont know about breaking them up but their purchase does point to their obsession with Mobile Devices...

the 149 price for the entire NIK bundle is unheard of.

the only site where Ive been able to find SIlver Efx Pro by NIK software...is Amazon..and its no longer available as a single item there,...

Google had best not stop development of this product.

I dont even know what Instragram is.

Ive used NIK software on My desktop mac for several years...and hope google’s smart enough to continue distributing it.

at 150 bucks for their whole collection I have to wonder.
