There was one of these in my general area two weeks ago. Contractors ruptured a gas line and a huge explosion and fire resulted. Amazingly, only one death. 10 houses destroyed and many more damaged. No effort was made to evacuate the area, all they did was call the utility to come fix their pipe.
You would think on the street there would be spray painted explaining what type of ultilites you must be careful for. Not practicing “call before you dig.”
