Club for Growth is backing Dan Sullivan in the marquee Alaska Senate race, giving the Republican a boost in a three-way primary to challenge incumbent Democrat Mark Begich.
The endorsement marks one of the few times this cycle that the conservative group has rallied behind an establishment favorite. While the National Republican Senatorial Committee doesnt officially get involved in primaries where no GOP incumbent is running, some senior members have helped Sullivan raise money.
The endorsee was most recently the commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and is competing against Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and Joe Miller, the 2010 Tea Party favorite who won the GOP nomination (and a Club for Growth endorsement) that year but lost the general election to incumbent Republican Lisa Murkowski, who ran as a write-in candidate. Sullivan also served in the State Department during the George W. Bush administration and later as Alaska attorney general.
While polling in the 49th state is often scattered and unreliable, Sullivan does appear to be leading the GOP pack among voters and in fundraising.

Dan Sullivan is shaping up to be the best candidate and the Club for Growth would not support a RINO. I’m feeling good about this race.
The endorsement in question is in Alaska. Still, an endorsement of Shannon in Oklahoma would be a positive.
Yep!
I'm glad to hear that.
i dont think COG cares much for social issues
The Club for Growth also loves Muslims.
Frankly, they are about as trustworthy as the Chamber of Commerce.
bump
What do we know about him?
I don’t know what Club for Growth support means for most Alaskan GOP primary voters. I’m not even sure what it means as far as myself. All I care about is getting Begich out.
Somebody has been running anti-Sullivan ads on the tube lately, basically accusing him of being a carpetbagger. The local rag says it’s a pro-Begich PAC. They aren’t running anti-Mead Treadwell ads or anti-Joe Miller ads so I guess that says who they are afraid of.
Alaska ping.
Actually, I figured Mark Begich would have switched to the Repub Party by now; only way he could win the race this fall. We live up on the Yukon, we live in an unorganized borough, no local govt; better yet.
You make an excellent point. Democrats are nervous about the decorated vet Sullivan.
