Imperial Presidency: The White House says it will constrain companies from deciding which workers are white-collar enough not to punch a time card for overtime. We need more jobs, not more job-killing regulation.
'America does not stand still, and neither will I" is how President Obama defends playing God with the law, instead of acting as a constitutionally constrained chief executive. His rationale is that "wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that's what I'm going to do."
From scrapping ObamaCare's mandates to disguising his health takeover's failure, to hiking the wages of workers under federal contract, to new truck mile-per-gallon requirements, Obama has taken steps he actually can't take unilaterally under the Constitution.
Now he proposes another government power grab into the private sector, something that far from expands opportunities for American families. In an obvious attempt to rev up the liberal Democratic voter base in a congressional election year, the president will re-interpret the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act.
His goal: "Try to change rules that allow employers to define which workers are exempt from receiving overtime based on the kind of work they perform," as the New York Times reported after interviewing White House Domestic Policy Council director Cecilia Munoz, an ex-operative for the far-left Hispanic group La Raza.
Obama aims to raise dramatically the $455-per-week minimum salary beneath which an employee must work under overtime rules. The administration and Big Labor sneer that a janitor can currently be deemed an "executive" if he supervises other janitors, and that that exploits workers.

Hold everything!
When exactly did Hussein become Dictator-in-Chief?
I didn't get the memo.
Why isn't there a firestorm of instant protests by all segments of the economy?
This is clearly a legislative function
Another "WTF" moment?
Win The Future?
I think the WH wrecking crew is surprised America hasn’t gone down yet. Apparently, no amount of wasted money can kill America.
Hugo Chavez is an excellent comparison and we may wind up like Venezuelans sooner than most think.
never issue an executive order you can not enforce
He is so out of touch. A supervisor is not making 450 a week. He is so ridiculous. I supervise and make five times that. He is so stupid.
That’s what I’m thinking. Going all the way back to Argentina and Peron, it’s very hard to turn off a socialist experiment.
Amen...Perhaps 0bummer should pay attention to what’s happening in CT over the “assault” weapons ban, and that wasn’t an executive order.
Supervisors in some fields are not as well paid as you are.
For example, take a janitorial supervisor making $15 per hour. He grosses $600 per week and is currently able to be classified as an exempt employee. He can be paid on a salaried basis. If the current wage cutoff is raised to $700, that supervisor gets reclassified as an hourly worker and must be paid for overtime.
It will INCREASE employment.
Two part timers will replace the incumbent.
I would like to see Obama switched from salary to wage, and get paid for what he is worth, and only for the time he actually works.
This is going to go over like a brick with school districts. Beginning teachers where I’m at make less than minimum wage when the overtime gets counted in, not to mention all the mandatory meetings and functions they have to attend. Where is that money going to come from? Like I need to ask.
Well said...If 0bama was paid what he’s worth he’d owe the taxpayers if he was paid no salary.
I’m convinced that the only purpose of this directive as well as the $10.50 minimum wage is to draw out opposition from Republicans and libertarians which can then become fodder for midterm election ads.
“Greedy Republicans would rather give tax-breaks to their millionaire pals than address income inequality.”
It’s pointless to discuss how these things will affect the economy or unemployment, they are just for public relations and advertising.
I know what to do....VOTE him out! That's it! VOTE!
Then we can get a 'publican in there who will do the same thing! God I love this country!
FMCDH(BITS)
Do you think the law, passed in1938, had $455/ week written in it?
Bastard is doing everything he can to make sure people stayed unemployed.
Get with it...work is so then.
“A supervisor is not making 450 a week. He is so ridiculous. I supervise and make five times that.”
Freaking sick!!!!
When will this guy get a REAL job!!!
