Answer that by comparing the behavior of Richard Nixon to that of an increasingly similar Barack Obama.
Nixon tried to use the Internal Revenue Service to go after his political enemies -- although his IRS chiefs at least refused his orders to focus on liberals.
Nixon ignored settled law and picked and chose which statutes he would enforce -- from denying funds for the Clean Water Act to ignoring congressional subpoenas.
Nixon attacked TV networks and got into personal arguments with journalists such as CBS's Dan Rather.
Nixon wanted the Federal Communications Commission to hold up the licensing of some television stations on the basis of their political views.
Nixon went after "enemies." He ordered surveillance to hound his suspected political opponents and was paranoid about leaks.
Now, consider how President Obama has directed government, as opposed to the platitudes he has offered about how it should operate.

Obama is using the NSA to listen and track both his domestic enemies as his European "friends" leaders, members of NATO. His sub-secretary of State, Nuland, expressed the administration open disdain for US allies by a resounding "F@@k the EU"!
Yes, but instead of walking it with Sam Ervin, Peter Rodino, and the Washington Post, he's walking it with Harry Reid, John Boehner, and Alex Jones.

The similarities to Nixon, and the trajectory of the fall, show some eerie parallels, with a few important differences.
Nixon was actually an American, and never used any kind of affirmative action to get into position of political power. Worse, the press and other media of the time when Nixon was climbing up to his eventual heights, was almost uniformly AGAINST Nixon, but he rose and rose again in spite of them.
Even at his dip into despair, in 1962, when Nixon was prone to feeling a little beaten up after losing the California gubernatorial race, he quietly went about rebuilding his brand, something that the Current Occupant has never dirtied his hands with, always having been somebody else’s pet project. Doors were opened for The Won that Nixon had to batter his way through.
But the bruising earlier battles really changed Nixon, into a much more driven person than he would have been otherwise. Obsession with being a convincing and important public figure, and having to do it all the while in a hostile environment, caused Nixon to be just a little more demanding, and some would say, rather paranoid in his dealings with those who set themselves up as his “enemies”.
The Imposter never has been as good at Nixon in repelling his “enemies”, but he has had impressive defense set up for him all along the way. Even with all that, the New Imperial Presidency has not been able to resonate with more than a part of the highly vocal prevent defense crowd, and in the end, has shown no proficiency or expertise in the art of governance.
