Actually, many think that Maryland was named for Blessed Mary, Mother of Christ, but it was actually named for Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I of England.

Speaking of Maryland, how dare the state dedicate a similar monument to the first landing of the Europeans in the state!
