Last night, March 13th, on the streets of Donetsk, Russians and Ukrainians clash. Very violent and very good quality film by Vice News. Link is to youtube video.
Hmm...., Another Holomodor maybe?
Donetsk is on the eastern border with Russia. My comment was meant as what might happen if the Russians invade. Probably overstated. Shoud have used the word invasion instead of slaughter.
They must seal the border with Russia, immediately.
A live thread on the events in the Ukraine. Ukrainians think these people are likely Russian, not ethnically, but from the Russian federation proper. An excerpt:
“The video shows Russians with the accents of those from the Russian Federation, not Ukraine, attacking a group of pro-EuroMaidan activists. They shout Russia! Russia! and Where is your Ukraine?!. Using one of the worst insults in the region, they cry Pederasts! Pederasts! and then On your knees! On your knees! in a constant chant.”

They’re also apparently really excited to prove they’re local. One of the “Pro-Moscow” demonstrators interrupted a newscast, but, before speaking, insisted on showing them his ID to prove local residence.
The Russians look organized like they’re pros.
Sad to say they are alone. There are a ton of reasons why but mostly economic.
It’s been reported, or, I suppose, noticed, that the same individuals tend to show up in different protests around the country, claiming different identities each time. I think the one I saw was of a fat blonde woman posing as a Pro-Putin woman of Ukraine, in various manifestations. I also heard of another one who was known to have been doing the same “protest” work in Georgia.
Considering how concerned Putin is with handling the public, most likely there are literally trained professional protestors/agents of influence whom Moscow relies on to handle stuff like this.
“Its been reported, or, I suppose, noticed, that the same individuals tend to show up in different protests around the country, claiming different identities each time.”
I find it interesting that MSNBC can find the “professional protestors” in Ukraine, but just can’t seem to find any of them at the SEIU/NOW/OFA “rallies” and protests.
Our local NBC station stopped covering the SEIU’s Minimum wage protests after local bloggers noted that they had interviewed the same “Employee” at two different protests, at two different companies.
Even though Putin is a fellow statist and liar, he fell from grace due to the dispute over gay marriage.
Buy or steal this movie. It is a must see. Western naivety about Putin's Russia is very dangerous.
I hope you guys in America can avoid turning this very serious situation into something where just domestic policy minded points are scored. This is something I hope the whole America can be united in. It is not a time for the euphoria 20 years ago about how the Cold War is over and now everyone is friends.
Russkies demanding Ukrainians get on their knees?
Dream on Russia you obscene bully. Get back to where you belong!
Thanks for sharing...no need to buy or steal it. The movie is available on Netflix and I will watch it this weekend.
Just to add one important thing, that I have seen Freerepublic get wrong repeatedly. The word “liberal” means different things in different parts of the world and I believe former American commies perverted this word for the USA.
In Europe it does not mean what it means in the USA. In Europe it means ones who want low taxes and small government. Due to American media they are also called “classical liberals” now.
In Russia “liberal” means people who are against Putin. People wanting elections, rule of law (as opposed by rule by a phone call from powerful) and non-government controlled media are called liberals there.
They are masturbating to shirtless Putin on a pony because he is causing problems for Obama...
Fist, Putin has not "fallen from grace" he is ascending into a more powerful position, no matter how we think.
Mainly due to the decent of Western values and our totally feckless leadership. And who will "seal" that border?
"Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
- Thucydides
I have seen many these kinds of posts here and it makes me worry. I know Putin is spending a lot on media spin doctors, but I had hoped FreeRepublic posters are not among those falling for it so easily.
If the situation continues to deteriorate, unquestionably, Russia will intervene. No state will tolerate for long anarchy along its borders. Lavrov will probably deliver the message to Kerry today. Regrettably, the West has chosen to hide behind international law in its attacks on Russia, conveniently forgetting the fact its support for a lawless coup in Kiev landed the region in a dangerous situation. Which forced Russia to intervene in Crimea. And now the West talks about the illegality of self-determination while at the time it supported Kosovo’s seccession vote in violation of Serbia’s consitution. All of this is a farce but if a stop is not put to it, people could get killed.
“Which forced Russia to intervene in Crimea.”
What exactly forced Russia to intervene in Crimea... ?
