German politicians might be working hard to dissolve tension between Ukraine and Russia, but a recent poll revealed over half of Germans do not care whether the conflict sparks a third world war.

In the poll at the start of March, which was widely shared on Twitter on Thursday and Friday, 55 percent of those asked said they “did not care” in response to the question: “The world is holding its breath: will the Ukraine conflict lead to a third World War?” […]

But with just 146 people answering Kabel Eins’ questionnaire, the survey was not exactly representative.

Quite the effort to drum up the headline. (Wonder if this is a template for all those rosy liberal polls?)

The thing to watch here is, what is Poland doing? Or, for that matter, what are those countries along the borders of the Ukraine doing? Military assets being moved to there?
We know that Russia has moved some of its assets to that border.

Pericles is quoted as saying: “Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you.” War is like that, too. After all, it is just an extension of politics. Just because you don’t want to go to war doesn’t mean that war won’t come to you.

Politics is war without bloodshed.

War is politics with bloodshed.

WWIII???! How do the dominos fall into that. Russa over Ukrane, USA retaliates. Does that bring in China? UK looks like they will sit.
This does not appear to have a WW tension, especially if US sits on its hands.
I can see where the conflict kooks who are waiting in the shadows to add to, but not initiate, unrest, may add to confusion. But I just dont see WWIII. I am willing to listen if I’m incorrect.

After watching the O’Reilly factor, and reading several differning pieces on the net (with divergent viewpoints) did the U.S. have interests that were fomenting unrest in Ukraine?

If so, why is Kerry upset that Russia sent in troops into Crimea?

If there were already Russian troops in Crimea, why does Kerry want them all to be used now to stop the Crimean referendum?

If Kerry supported Albanian independence in Kosovo, and placed that over Serbia wanting territorial integrity, why do he and Obama now support Ukraine wanting territorial integrity over Crimean independence?

Perhaps if WWIII breaks out the Germans are thinking

"Third time's a charm"

Probably nothing. Since they're NATO members, why would they? They're military pygmies. They'll rely on the USA do the heavy lifting when things go sour.

"hey'll rely on the USA do the heavy lifting when things go sour. "

Sucker Sam needs to pull out of all the war trip wires around the world. We've had 100 years of war and we are drained of blood and treasure. China can you spare a dime?

Just like WWI...once these things start they have a tendency to spin out of control. Especially when you have deluded, self important amateurs on one side and a Real Politik professional on the other. As for China, I wouldn't expect them to take part. Once the West is occupied by Russia and Ukraine they will have the pacific all to themselves. It would be an excellent time for them to exert their will over the entire theatre. Japan, Phillipines, Malaysia, even Australia better be paying attention.

If that’s true, then the rising powers will see us ripe for conquest.

Not with Hagel shrinking US military capacity to pre-WWII levels. And we don’t need the anti-US European Union acquiring its own military.
