Son of God, by 20th Century Fox, grossed $25.6 million in its debut weekend, Feb. 28 to March 2, placing second to Non-Stop at the box office. The film spins off from last year’s History channel series The Bible, by reality TV producer Mark Burnett and his wife, actress Roma Downey.

It’s joined by a number of other Bible-based films headed to the big screen with star-studded casts in the coming months.

Noah from Paramount Pictures opens on March 28, with Russell Crowe as the man instructed by God to build an ark. Exodus from 20th Century Fox is slated to open later this year with Christian Bale as Moses, who leads the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. And Lionsgate Films is working on Mary, Mother of Christ, the prequel to The Passion of the Christ.

The Son of God film also has spawned The Bible: Son of God concert tour, which makes a stop in Columbus on April 3 at Grace Polaris Church on the Far North Side.

I finally saw Son of God last night. It should have been called the Roma Downey Face movie.

Jesus falls down...camera goes to Roma Downey's face. Jesus gets up, Roma Downey's face Solider hits Jesus, Roma Downey's face. Jesus says something, Roma's face etc. etc. etc. The camera went back to her face about 50 to a 100 times during the crucifixion scence!

I won’t see it. Its politically correct.

As fo Noah, it brings in global warming and overpopulation and has that historical, moral and socientific moron Russel Crowe as the center piece of the movie. I heard his idotic blatherings about the Crusades and King Richard I in the Robin Hood movie before nausea compelled me to turn it off.
Won’t waste anymore time or money on anything that historical ignoramus is involved with.

Beware of false prophets, but in this case profits are also involved.

The one BIG thing a lot of you nay nay nay people are missing is: could and would the Lord use these films to bring a hand full of non believers to his fold?? Some times we forget WHO is in charge here. In my opinion a lot of Bible stories are short and to the point but some “Hollywooding” makes it a lot more interesting and entertaining up on the screen. Not many would flock to the movie without that. As for me, after reading some of your negative posts here, I want even more to see it now for myself just to see if what you said is really the case.

Four is a “flood”? I don’t think so. Not to mention one of them is a re-edited TeeVee show...
